The money came for EDMOND DANTES at Market Rasen last month and while he failed to get the job done he ran a cracker in defeat and I think he can go one better at Newcastle on Saturday. He looked the most likely winner before taking a tumble over C&D on penultimate start so that was a big step back in the right direction last time. He remains unexposed over fences so is open to improvement and looks to have found a good opportunity. Go On Chez has to be respected on his return and has won fresh before so looks the danger. Sir Apollo ran better under positive tactics over C&D last time and if the first-time cheekpieces bring him on again he could have a say too. I just think we haven’t seen the best of Edmond Dantes yet and he should prove hard to beat in what appears to be a winnable race.

I know DAWN RAIDER couldn’t complete the hat-trick at Newcastle last month but he ran right up to form in defeat and only went down a length and a quarter at the line with the front pair 3 lengths clear and the field well strung out in behind. He obviously isn’t open to further improvement being a 10yo now but he is only 2lb higher here so if he repeats that sort of run here he should take a lot of beating. Bob’s Bar has had a wind op so deserves a second look in the betting. Bitasweetsymphony built on previous efforts to win over C&D in December but has failed to back that up since and needs more here. It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Harry Du Berlais emerged as the danger as while he hasn’t shown much over hurdles he should make into a better chaser and so might improve to keep the fav honest.
