There are some really nice horses heading to post at Newmarket on Tuesday so it will be Notebooks at the ready. I’m looking forward to seeing Kingman filly CRENELLE (best price 5/2) make her reappearance for John Gosden. The yard won this last year and she showed plenty on racecourse debut at Southwell at the start of the month. She ran green and it wasn’t until the closing stages where the penny dropped. She ran on well to finish third but the front pair had flown. She was subsequently promoted to second after War Of Words was disqualified. She will know a lot more now and that experience is expected to count for plenty. Fonteyn has also shown ability and that second at Newcastle 6 months ago looks good form. She is likely to emerge as the danger to the selection. Thanks Monica is another one that should have a bright future but might do better for the run.

New Bay filly WHITE WILLOW (best price 3/1) has looked really promising. She ran a cracker on debut where she was sent off a 25/1 chance to finish third behind Tyrrhenian Sea and quickly improved when denied just a neck on her second start. With further progression up in trip she won impressively here last time and with this further step up in distance likely to unlock improvement again she can follow up on her handicap debut. I’ll be surprised if she isn’t better than a 75-rated filly. Desert Emperor likes this C&D and looks the danger as the market is suggesting. He is off a career high-mark now though nudged up another 1lb for that head defeat last time and if the selection improves as I think she will I’m not sure he’ll be able to hold her off. Old Port will be better suited by this scenario so also has to enter calculations. Percy Willis also looks high enough in the handicap.
