15:25 Ripon

2 winners in 2 days for the Notebook so hopefully we can continue to fire in the winners on Thursday. We head to Ripon where GALILEO GLASS (best price 9/4) can get himself back in the winners enclosure. This Galileo Gold colt looked a shade unlucky at Windsor last time. He was in the firing line throughout and if he hadn’t jinked badly right-handed he may well have held on in the closing stages. He ended up getting picked off but rallied strongly at the line and only went down by a very narrow margin. He races off the same mark and remains unexposed over a mile. The horse that beat him Thunder Queen looks a nice type for Richard Hannon so the form could be very solid. In terms of a danger it is most likely Government as he ran well in defeat at Wolverhampton. He is open to improvement on turf for the first time and should make a race of it with the selection.

16:45 Newmarket

It’s still early days with TWILIGHT CALLS (best price 3/1) and I think he could be in for a big season ahead. He looked a sprinter going places when he won a fiercely competitive handicap on the July Course here and while he failed to back that up on his next two starts he certainly wasn’t disgraced in defeat. He had excuses when fourth at Goodwood but wasn’t beaten far and then stuck to the task having been given a lot to do at York in and amongst the right horses. These are calmer waters on return and I think he can resume his progress now. Night On Earth arrives on a hat-trick and should go well but has a career high-mark to defy which won’t be easy. Faustus made a winning return at Newcastle but is 5lb higher here. Aplomb might be one at a bigger price that could hit the frame but he’d want some rain and there doesn’t look to be much if any forecast.
