It’s often worth siding with experience in a maiden like this and I think MY PROSPERO showed enough on debut to think he could make a winning return here. This colt by Iffraaj was slowly away at Newmarket but gradually warmed to the task and did much of his best work late on. The winner has since run a big race in the Craven behind Native Trail so for me the form has been franked. The second Noble Order was beaten less than a length at Kempton on his second start before making a winning return in January. He should be a lot more streetwise now and looks well placed to make the breakthrough. Thesis is the obvious danger as he also shaped with encouragement on debut and will do better with that under his belt. I expected the pair to be the other way round in the betting though. Sea The Stars colt Nawras is the most interesting of the debutants.

Aidan O’Brien won this last year with Kyprios so Dubawi colt Sussex has to be respected but he has enough to find on form so I prefer the chances of FRENCH CLAIM for Paddy Twomey. He looked a nice prospect winning on debut and I thought it was just a lack of experience that caught him out when fourth in the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes. He is open to improvement up in trip again and looks one to keep on the right side of for now. Great Max is the likely danger having last been seen competing in the Breeders’ Cup. He makes his debut for this yard and should run a solid race but lacks the potential the selection brings to the table. Freedom Of Speech is one of two fillies in the field and while she should strip fitter from that reappearance third at the Curragh she still has to prove herself over this trip and then even still might need more to come out on top.
