Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's racing.
13:55 Southwell
The David Evans trained ZEPHINA (best priced at 2/1) finished a close 3rd on her most recent start and a repeat of that effort should be good enough to win this. The Zoustar filly finished 5th at Kempton on her debut before improving to finish 3rd at Redcar 21 days ago.
The form of that race is working out well with the winner Star Of Lady following up under a penalty at Ripon by 3 ½ lengths and the second Primrose Ridge winning by 7 lengths on her next start at Beverley so that boosts the chances of Zephina in this race. The Archie Watson newcomer Eddie’s Boy should prove the biggest danger on his debut but given Zephina’s previous experience and the subsequent form boosts; I expect her to prove hard to beat.
15:25 Ayr
The Jim Goldie trained CALL ME GINGER (best priced at 10/3) won on his most recent start at the course and he should run well following his recent reappearance run. The six-year-old completed a hat-trick of wins last season with his final victory coming over this course and distance off a mark of 83.
Call Me Ginger ran with credit at Musselburgh on his reappearance 9 days ago but was outpaced over the trip of 5f. This step back up to 6f will suit him and the handicapper has been generous in dropping him 2lbs for that run.
16:10 Southwell
Despite racing from 1lb out of the handicap in this race, the vote goes to DAAFY (best priced at 8/1) who comes into this race having been running well over this course and distance recently. The Derek Shaw trained five-year-old has form figures of 15121 at Southwell this year with his latest two victories coming over this trip of 7f.
Daafy has won off marks of 52, 56 and 58 so far this year so he is progressing well and he runs here off a revised mark of 61. He goes up in class from a Class 6 0-65 handicap up to a Class 4 0-80 handicap but given his previous course form (only course winner in the field) I expect him to run well.
