George Gamble's Selection for Villarreal vs Liverpool

It’s been a common theme for Liverpool recently to put in professional performances without completely blowing away the opposition. Just as we saw against both Newcastle United and Everton either side of their first-leg victory over Villarreal in the UCL last week.

The ‘Yellow Submarine’ has also seen a lack of goals on home soil lately, with just one of their last seven home matches across all competitions seeing more than two goals and given they will possibly still be without a number of key players for this one, I’d be surprised to see a high-scoring affair here.

Villarreal were able to stop Liverpool from scoring for almost an hour until their defence was finally breached. Boss Unai Emery has promised a different game when the two teams clash here but I personally think it will follow a similar format and be a close encounter.

Jurgen Klopp won’t allow his side to rest on their laurels and another closely fought win looks likely for me here. At odds of evens, I’ll take Liverpool to win with fewer than 4.5 goals being scored for a point.
