Aidan O’Brien has made a strong start to the Boodles May Festival winning the Cheshire Oaks and the Chester Vase yesterday and he has a good chance of more success with the promising STAR OF INDIA (best price 9/4). This Galileo colt made a perfect start winning easily on debut at Leopardstown before looking like he needed the run when down the field in the Craven. He tried to make all on that occasion but was claimed in the closing stages. He steps up to a mile and quarter here which should suit and given his trainer has won 6 of the last 9 renewals of this race and he relies on just the one runner this year says a lot to me. The danger looks to be Sonny Liston who has a similar profile to the selection and should improve from that Newmarket run. Cresta is also talented by the looks of it but a first-time hood is a bit concerning.

I thought GRISBI DE BERCE (best price 11/4) shaped with a great deal of encouragement in the Imperial Cup and given he is the type to improve now sent over fences I think he can make a winning chase debut here. It wasn’t just that run at Sandown that caught the eye as he equipped himself well in defeat behind An Talliur at Taunton and again behind First Street at Kempton. He brings the most potential to the table here and I think he can make a perfect start in this sphere. One For Billy finally got back to winning ways at Warwick and I admit he is potentially well treated on old form but I don’t think he is one for maximum faith and looks opposable. If Ecume Atlantique can brush up his jumping he could emerge as the main danger. Caddyhill is another one that needs to bounce back but on some of his best form he could also be a threat.
