A big field for this but I’m confident LIFE’S A BEACH (best price 9/4) is the one to beat. This colt by Footstepsinthesand was put away after finishing down the field on handicap debut as a 2yo and returned with a much improved effort when fifth at Bath last time. That looks really solid form to me as the winner had previously finished second to Aryaah who I rate. He met a bit of trouble and had to angle out before finishing strongly. I expect him to be a lot more streetwise following that and off the same mark he has real likeable claims here. If he is held up again he will need a bit of luck as he looks to pick his way through but other than that I’m convinced he is well handicapped. Storm Asset has been fairly progressive on the AW and is a danger back on turf here. The Charmer is another one that could show up well but he doesn’t find a great deal in a finish.

The hat-trick might not have been landed here last time but CAPTAIN KANE (best price 9/4) only actually went down three-quarters of a length at the line and his previous form is hard to knock. He steps back up to a mile and a half now and I think he can resume his progress. He is up 4lb but obviously remains unexposed over this trip and I think there is more to come yet. Whitcliffe is second favourite at the time of writing and I think that says a lot about the lack of depth in this race as he is still a maiden after 8 starts. He did go close at Beverley last time though and that form does make him the danger. Vaxholm has won at this track before which has to be a positive but he is back up in trip and has to prove his stamina to spring an upset. Mutara was left poorly placed when third at Windsor and it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if he chased the selection home.
