It’s not often a horse improves after leaving Sir Michael Stoute but that has very much been the case with NATIONWIDE (best price 11/4) who only had to be pushed out to bring up the hat-trick at Wolverhampton last time. He is a colt firmly on the upgrade and while he needs to transfer that form over to turf now if he does he is comfortably the one to beat here. He has a potent turn of foot and who is to say he won’t step forward again now on grass? There will be plenty of pace on and I can only see that suiting him further so he is a confident selection to bring up the four-timer. Alrehb ran no sort of race in the Victoria Cup but his form before that looks strong and if bouncing back he will be the danger. Dancinginthewoods looked unlucky at Newmarket on return and is better than what he showed at Leicester last time so also has to be feared.

After just a handful of starts we haven’t seen the best of TEUMESSIAS FOX (best price 2/1) yet and the fact connections pitched him in at Listed level following his Newcastle romp speaks volumes to me. He wasn’t at his best on that occasion becoming unbalanced on the track and backing out of it in the closing stages. He was back to form when second to a nice prospect in Brayden Star at Salisbury and back down in calmer waters racing off the same mark he looks to have an obvious chance of getting back in the winners enclosure now. He tackles a mile and a half for the first time too here which could bring about further improvement. Fairmac ran a solid race when third at Ripon last time and has to be considered. Natchez Trace may emerge as a greater danger though as he shaped as though he’d appreciate a step back up in trip last time.
