Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action, including a NAP at Catterick.
This looks a competitive 0-55 handicap but preference goes to the only course winner in the field which is HAVEN LADY (best priced at 15/8). The John Quinn trained four-year-old won over this course and distance last time when well backed into favouritism on her first start on turf for nearly a year.
Haven Lady won easily by 2 ¼ lengths at the finish despite being eased down late on and the pair pulled a further 3 ¾ lengths clear of the third so it looked an impressive performance. The handicapper has raised her 6lbs for that victory but she should prove hard to beat off a mark of 56.
John McConnell has a great record when coming over to the UK over jumps (28% strike rate & a +26.08pt profit in the last five years) and I expect his good run to continue with OTTOMAN STYLE (best priced at 6/4) in this race. The six-year-old was an impressive winner of a maiden hurdle last time at Downpatrick where he won comfortably by 2 ¼ lengths under 7lb claimer Thomas Reilly.
Connections now send Ottoman Style over to Cartmel for a novice hurdle under a penalty but on ratings he should prove hard to beat. He has to concede 7lbs to the eleven-year-old Licklighter who is only rated 6ls inferior but I would be disappointed if the selection doesn’t progress past that rival. Thomas Reilly once again claims 7lbs and looks good value for that claim and I expect Ottoman Style to follow up in this race.
The Geoffrey Harker trained ELDELBAR (best priced at 50/1) looks a massive price for this 0-70 handicap and that only appears to be because of his latest effort where he was eased having been found to have suffered an irregular heartbeat. If you forgive that effort then he looks extremely well handicapped off a mark of 65 having been dropped from a 0-75 handicap into a 0-70 handicap.
The eight-year-old won over this course and distance last season off a mark of 67 and was only beaten 1 ½ lengths off that mark at Newcastle on the AW on his penultimate start. Eldelbar was only sent off 7/1 in a better contest last time so 66/1 looks a wild price and I expect him to outrun those odds with four places on offer.
