16:10 Listowel

I’m going to chance HOTROCKET (best price 2/1) knowing a lot more at Listowel on Sunday. He only ran once as a 2yo where he was beaten just 4 lengths by Star Of India at Leopardstown. He was sent off at 28/1 on that occasion and looked a bit clueless early on before the penny dropped and he stuck to the task encouragingly. He is likely to have come on plenty since and this looks a good opportunity for him to open his account under Colin Keane. Elmos Fire has more experience and ran well when beaten less than a length last time. He looks the obvious danger but I think he probably lacks the potential of the selection which ultimately sways the vote. Lucky San Jore didn’t have the best passage at Cork so is likely better than that. He has first-time cheekpieces so could easily fare best of the rest.

16:50 Goodwood

Back in form NEW HEIGHTS (best price 3/1) looks hard to oppose at Goodwood on Sunday. I loved the way she kept finding to fend off the well backed Professional Widow at Sandown last time. She is only up 2lb from that and under similar front-running tactics here she will likely go very close again under Rob Hornby. The only other pace in the field is from Meadram so as long as they don’t take each other on too much up front I think she could have this run to suit again. Oriental Art remains a maiden and is second fav in the betting so that tells you about the lack of quality on show here. He looked to need the run on return at Newbury and should at least be sharper now. Meadram is better on the AW but still has some good form on turf so also has to enter calculations. Militry Decoration won last time but this is definitely tougher.
