The way PABLO DEL PUEBLO (best price 3/1) won at Lingfield was very impressive and it was interesting hearing what connections had to say after. They clearly think he is a cut above this grade and dropping back to the minimum they might not see which way he goes again. He has speed to burn so will burst out and look to make all. He carries a 5lb penalty but I think as long as they keep a lid on him down to the start and he gives his running he should have too much for these rivals. Val De Travers is the danger having won 2 of his last 3. He is by no means straightforward though and it’s hard to know if he’ll be on a going day. If the selection gets on the front dictating I don’t think he’ll pick him up. The old boy Pettochside deserves a mention as he continues to run well and has won over track and trip in the past.

Charging Thunder has been running well all season finishing runner-up three times and ran right up to form again when a close second at York. He has to be feared but I think he might prove vulnerable again in the closing stages. KING FRANCIS (best price 3/1) made a winning start for this yard at Kempton back in April and while he has been beating twice since he had excuses at Yarmouth and was back to form bumping into another progressive horse in Spirit Mixer at Chelmsford. That looks good form and with further improvement likely I think he can get himself back in the winners enclosure here. Matchless landed back-to-back wins at Doncaster and wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Newmarket so also has to enter calculations but likely needs more to contain the market principals. March Law needs first-time cheekpieces to perk him up.
