Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action.
13:15 Bath
This 0-80 handicap is full of exposed rivals so I am willing to take a chance on the unexposed four-year-old Earth Giant (best priced at 10/3) in this race. The Kevin Philippart De Foy trained colt has shown very little in his three career starts so far over 1m2f and 1m4f but is now upped significantly in trip to 2m1f for the first-time on his handicap debut.
The handicapper has given Earth Giant an opening mark of 68 which could seriously underestimate him and I expect him to run well with the talented Benoit De La Sayette claiming 3lbs.
15:36 Bath
There are a few handicap debutants in this 0-65 handicap but the interesting one is no doubt Imperial Eclipse (best priced at 9/2) who has been well backed in the overnight markets. The George Boughey trained son of Bated Breath has been beaten over 10 lengths on his three career starts to date but as a result he makes his handicap debut here off an opening mark of 51.
Imperial Eclipse has been gelded since his last run 225 days ago and Ben Curtis looks a significant jockey booking. He is 14/44 (32% strike rate) for the stable this year so he looks the stable ‘go to jockey’ and I expect him to land the gamble.
15:45 Hexham
The Mark Walford trained Johnson’s Blue (best priced at 9/4) is 3/3 at Hexham in his career and he looks to hold strong claims of following up his recent course and distance victory. The five-year-old struggled in novice hurdles but has won three handicaps at the course off marks of 87, 95 and 99 with his latest victory coming 25 days ago when he stayed on well to win by 2 ½ lengths.
The handicapper has raised Johnson’s Blue 4lbs for that victory up to a career high mark of 103 but I expect him to continue his progression and win this race.
