I’m going to take a chance on Nathaniel filly OBLONG SONG bouncing back here for Roger Varian. We only saw her out twice as a 2yo and she took a sizeable step forward when denied just a short head at Nottingham. She failed to live up to market expectations in a race won by subsequent Oaks second Emily Upjohn at Sandown. She might just have needed the outing and given these are much calmer waters I think she can make the breakthrough now. Atlantis Blue is also well bred and she ran well when second over C&D but did hang right under pressure which would have to be slightly concerning. I still think she’ll give the selection most to think about. Mastercraftsman filly Fine China is an interesting debutant for Sir Michael Stoute but unless the market spoke strongly I’d assume she would probably do better for the outing.

Profitable filly TAHANI improved to make a winning handicap debut at Chelmsford at the start of the month. A 4lb rise doesn’t look enough to anchor her with the promise of more to come and I’m confident she can get the better of this field. Archie Watson has applied first-time cheekpieces and they should just help her to focus and she looks a 3yo on the up to me. Bungledupinblue clearly likes this C&D and cashed in off a reduced mark here last time. She is up 5lb and in a better race though so I think she may struggle with the selection who obviously brings a fair bit of potential to the table. Kath’s Toyboy has just the 1 win from 22 starts on the Flat and while he ran well at Brighton he usually gets muscled out of it so hard to fancy him to spring an upset. May Remain also went close last time but isn’t a certainty to build on that.
