This might not take a great deal of winning so I think that makes THE VOLLAN (best price 7/4) a standout for Laura Morgan. He bolted up by 5 lengths at Southwell earlier in the month and he jumped the last that day with more to give. He is only 2lb higher here and should prove hard to beat under Adam Wedge. He will likely be ridden quietly which could suit in this race too with both Amalfi Doug and Prince Dundee wanting to go forward. They both arrive in good form and are solid dangers but could get racing too soon. For Jim won five times last season including twice over C&D but he has failed to fire so far this campaign and connections have reached for a visor now to replace the cheekpieces. He isn’t getting any younger now a 10yo and likely has enough to prove. Brian Boranha and Cooldine Bog both look up against it as well in a weak race.

The well bred BARTZELLA (best price 7/4) can bring up the hat-trick at Pontefract on Sunday. This filly by Golden Horn in the Oppenheimer colours ran on well to fend off Lady Hayes by a neck at Goodwood and despite a 3lb swing I think she can confirm those placings. I don’t think she was in love with the track last time so she probably did well to win. This test should suit better and with further improvement to come I think she’ll come out on top again. Lady Hayes failed to fire at Haydock last time but that was a tough enough ask and I still think she is the main danger. Glenartney was behind the pair mentioned above at Goodwood but ran well at York and also has to enter calculations. Goldie Hawk is likeable and is a big price but she has been found out at this level before so ultimately that would have to be enough to put you off.
