I’ve been waiting for COPPERKNOB (best price 10/3) to run again following that really promising third at Goodwood last time. He actually first went into my notes finishing down the field behind Atrium at Ascot last month. He is by Churchill and I thought he still looked a bit clueless breaking slowly into stride and shaping like he’d improve for the run. That has worked out since with the second Paradias winning in the style of a nice horse. The third Sip And Smile has acquitted himself well and the winner Atrium was given too much to do in the Britannia at Royal Ascot last week. He improved from that as expected to go down just a length and a half at Goodwood behind a real improver in Simply Sondheim. He remains unexposed and off the same mark I’m anticipating a big run here. Stablemate Silastar is fav but the yard can often land a touch with the second string. Caesar’s Palace looks the danger with a visor applied.

Another horse by Churchill in MISS CLEMENTINE (best price 5/2) at Beverley. She left previous form well behind to go down less than a length on handicap debut at Nottingham last time. She ran on well at the finish having been caught wide and given she was sent off at 25/1 there should be plenty of improvement to come off the same mark here. The front 3 pulled nicely clear from the rest with the field well strung out so it looks solid form. Garswood filly Coligone Kate looks the danger having missed narrowly herself at Wetherby last time. She has to prove herself back up in trip though and doesn’t look the easiest to ride with headgear on again. Ramamaras Boy was a big eye-catcher rattling home for third at Ripon but I get the impression with him he needs a real strong gallop to run down and there is no obvious pace angle in here so he might just end up running a similar race again here unless things work out better.
