UK Horse Racing Tips: Naas

EXCELIA can put her experience to good use. She has been out three times and posted a fifth in Dundalk and a couple of fourth places in Navan and Cork. The Cork winner that beat her by six lengths holds a Group 1 entry which puts her effort into a better light. Hugh Horgan's 7lb claim means Excelia receives weight from the whole field. Michael O'Callaghan has some very useful juveniles and takes the wraps off Oasis Queen. She holds an entry in an early closing Listed race at Redcar. This newcomer is related to several winners. Tanaiyla was runner-up on debut at Navan, but then could make no impression in seventh at the Curragh. A couple of winners have come out of that Curragh contest, though, so she can get in the mix. Ooh La Belle didn't build upon a promising fifth at Listowel when sixth in Limerick but can do better.

Several of these sprinters are out of form, so TEDDY BOY may get another turn. He undoubtedly finds it difficult to get his head in front as evidenced by a career record of four victories from 63 starts, however, he has been running very consistently. He has had more than three weeks off after a busy May. It was a similar break he last won off at Bellewstown in April. He is only 1lb higher than that day. Markievicz could build upon her Curragh success. She comfortably beat 29 rivals at the start of the month over an extended 6f for which the handicapper has given her 11lb. Now that she has found a winning groove, there may be more to come from her. Poet's Pride has been dropped another 3lb by the assessor and is likely to pop up sooner rather than later. Stanhope is eminently capable but it does need to be a going day. He won on his penultimate start at Navan, but then flopped on his next visit there.

DE VELARA appeals on the back of his runner-up berth at Cork when collared in the closing stages. That was his Irish debut after flashing potential in three runs in his native France when second, third and fourth. Lord Abama has solid claims after showing up well in his first two runs at the Curragh. He wasn't quite at the same level on his last start, but looks the one to beat with a mark of 79. Plankton went off odds on to make a winning debut in a claiming maiden at Roscommon where he found one horse too good. The form wasn't franked when that winner was well beaten in another claimer. He is in good hands, though, and won't be lacking in assistance from the saddle. Lucky Queen may only be rated 61 but she did finish very well for fifth behind De Velara in Cork when gambled on. It will be interesting to see if the support comes again.

ANDREAS VESALIUS can avail of a drop in class. His last four outings came in Group 2 and Group 3 company and he was a notable runner-up on his penultimate start in the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh last summer. He is entitled to come on from his seasonal reappearance fourth in a Group 3 over C&D last month. Jake Coen takes a more than handy 7lb off his back. Hernes Hill showed the benefit of strengthening up over the winter when returning with a victory over 6f at Cork. He makes his handicap debut and there should be plenty more to come from him. J J Jumbo has been racing in valuable races in Meydan and returns off a break. He is certainly one to note in the market. Areille and Radiyka are other contenders.

A competitive renewal of this Listed race and perhaps SEISAI from the in-form Joseph O'Brien yard can give weight away all around. The daughter of Gleneagles carries a 3lb penalty for a Tipperary Listed win last year and appears to be steadily improving this term. She didn't enjoy a clear run inside the final furlong behind better fancied stablemate Hannibal Barca at the Curragh last time. One For Bobby surprised connections when scoring on debut at Gowran Park last month and progressed again to score over the same C&D. She's an exciting prospect and rates a danger along with The Algarve. The latter is a beautifully bred Galway maiden winner and has been highly tried in two outings this term. Term Of Endearment and Kiss You Later are others to consider.

JUYUSH racked up a hat-trick over this trip at Dundalk the winter before last for Sarah Lynam. The Frankel gelding has dropped to a lower mark than he last won off and, having joined Jenny Lynch this year, has steadily progressed coming home well on all three starts. He's closely matched with Zahee on running behind Focus Required at Leopardstown earlier this month and Danny Gilligan is good value for his claim. Level Pitch won over the straight seven furlongs at Cork this spring and has been placed three times since including over this trip at Leopardstown last time. Giuseppe Cassioli gave connections an immediate payback when scoring at Dundalk in March. Both his previous wins were also on the all-weather in England and it will be interesting to see how he fares here on turf.

ONLY is certainly bred in the purple being by Deep Impact and the first foal of dual Guineas winner Winter. She was easy to back on debut but lost little in defeat when staying on well to just go down by a neck behind stablemate Lullaby over this trip at Leopardstown. It's obviously of some concern that she has been absent for well over two months but hopefully can take this on the way to better things. Giulia Frasi has shown promise on both outings this year and should appreciate this step up to a mile, while Eyaziya drops back in distance after a couple of runs this season in decent 1m2f maidens. Blazing Skies is a nicely bred newcomer to keep an eye on in the market.
