Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action.
This looks a competitive 0-85 handicap but preference goes to the Kevin Ryan trained THUNDERING (best priced at 3/1) who ran well to finish 2nd earlier this month. The three-year-old has returned this season in good form with a 2nd placed finish at Pontefract before finishing 5th behind Queens Vase winner Eldar Eldarov here over 1m2f last time in what looked a strong race.
Thundering finished a close 2nd at Doncaster last time in a maiden and the handicapper has actually raised him 2lbs for that effort up to a mark of 81. He makes his handicap debut here off his previous mark of 79 so he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to run well back at this track.
Rocket Rod is respected in this race following his recent course and distance victory but a 9lb higher mark will make it more difficult and as a result I prefer the chances of FERGIE TIME (best priced at 7/4). The Keith Dalgleish trained three-year-old has been a model of consistency this season with form figures of 1332 including a close 2nd last time at Hamilton.
Fergie Time was only beaten a short head last time off a mark of 60 and the handicapper has raised him 3lbs for that effort. He runs here off his previous mark though so he is 3lbs “well in” at the weights and as a result I think he will prove hard to beat.
Another horse “well in” at the weights on the Newcastle card is SILKY WILKIE (best priced at 10/3) and I think he looks worth taking a chance on in this race. The Karl Burke trained three-year-old has run well on all four of his starts this season including a win at Haydock on his penultimate start off a mark of 75.
Silky Wilkie was only beaten ½ length at Redcar on Saturday off a mark of 77 and the handicapper has raised him 3lbs for that effort. He runs here off a mark of 77 so he is 3lbs “well in” at the weights and I expect him to run well with Sam Feilden taking off a handy 7lbs.
