The ten-year-old has been a class act on the flat and over jumps, running in many Cheltenham Festivals and winning high-profile races on the flat, including the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and more importantly this race, the Northumberland Plate back in 2019 off a mark of 101.

Who Dares Wins has proven he can cope with the surface and the hustle and bustle of a big flat handicap and managed to peak on the flat on a mark of 107.

He hasn’t raced on the flat this season but did have a short 2021/22 jumps campaign which showed he was holding his form, but his mark did drop 6lb suggesting he is just beginning to decline with age, but not significantly.

Nevertheless, the handicapper has relented on the flat and he pitches up here off a mark of 95 and the very good claimer, Saffie Osborne, is on board who can claim 3lb off netting him down to 92.

Off that sort of mark, he can still be competitive, and with an ideal low draw, he can gain good track position against the rail and make a sustained run up the home straight.

His odds of 40/1 are just too big, especially considering he is guaranteed to be staying on when others fade, and we can get six places in this twenty-runner race.

I, therefore, recommend 1 point each way at 40/1.

The trainer of Tiger Jet, Brian Ellison, knows the horse particularly well as he bred him and has a National Hunt pedigree.

Tiger Jet started in 3-mile point to points, so even Ellison must be surprised to see him running on the flat in the Northumberland Vase!

He has been a slow-maturing type and only started racing as a five-year-old, where he managed a fair postmark high of 108 over jumps in his limited four starts.

Brian switched him to the flat this year, and with so much stamina in the bloodline, he must have been pleasantly surprised to see him run second in a fair maiden at Newcastle over an inadequate 1m 2F, postmarking 70. He pulled 6 lengths clear of the third who has gone on to be rated 75 and the winner has won again in a higher grade.

Tiger Jet has just run the once in a handicap, over 1m 4F and was unsurprisingly outpaced but stayed on well to finish an 8-length sixth of twelve, with him looking desperately in need of a step up in trip.

Well, he moves up to a much more suitable 2-mile trip here today and looks sure to run an improved race back at Newcastle where he ran so well in that maiden.

The mark of 73 looks more than fair and the price of 20/1 is very appealing for such an unexposed type who will relish conditions.

I, therefore, recommend 1 point each way at 20/1 with Bet365 which offers 5 places.
