A case can be made for most in this field and Brancaster, who ran well on his return from a lengthy absence at York last time, is an obvious candidate. However, it may be worth supporting THE NU FORM WAY, who looks capable of stepping up on just his second start for Hugo Palmer. Twice a winner on Tapeta, Midrarr has undergone a wind operation since her last run and cannot be discounted either.
Prediction : 1st The Nu Form Way 2nd Brancaster 3rd Midrarr

A winner over course and distance last September, STRIKE RED offered plenty when a close fourth at Hamilton earlier this month and Richard Fahey's gelding is narrowly favoured. C&D scorer Tommy de Vito has registered all three of his wins on the all-weather and warrants respect on his return to 6f, while Tipperary Tiger, who was successful in first-time cheekpieces at Hamilton last time, also makes the shortlist.
Prediction : 1st Strike Red 2nd Tommy de Vito 3rd Tipperary Tiger

SENSE OF DUTY showed further progression when landing the Cecil Frail at Haydock last month, form which has been boosted subsequently, and the daughter of Showcasing can continue her rise up the ranks. Dual C&D winner Glen Shiel moves down in grade after finishing fourth in Group 2 company at the Curragh last time and is respected, while Spycatcher and Edraak, both in first-time cheekpieces, are others to note.
Prediction : 1st Sense Of Duty 2nd Glen Shiel 3rd Spycatcher

Evaluation has proved a revelation in winning four successive handicaps since joining Keith Dalglish but a 5lb penalty in such a devilishly competitive event may just prove too much. There may be better value in siding with one of his recent victims in GEREMIA, who got no sort of run at Musselburgh last time, having previously shaped as being on the upgrade when a strong-finishing third after meeting trouble in running at York. Zealandia and Zoffee both bring winning form to the table and also have to go on the shortlist.
Prediction : 1st Geremia 2nd Zoffee 3rd Zealandia

All eyes will be on superstar stayer Trueshan as he again bids to defy a mammoth weight after last year's brave sixth-placed effort and it's not hard to envisage him being heavily involved once again after unsuitable fast ground saw him sidestep Royal Ascot. Rajinsky, last year's third, could also make his presence felt despite a higher mark after advertising his well-being with a placed effort in the Chester Cup, but preference is for last year's fourth ISLAND BRAVE, who gets the benefit of brilliant apprentice Benoit De La Sayette's 5lb allowance and appears to have been laid out for the race. Onesmoothoperator loves it at Newcastle and should also figure high on the shortlist.
Prediction : 1st Island Brave 2nd Rajinsky 3rd Onesmoothoperator

CLEARPOINT was well fancied for the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot but a minor setback ruled him out of that contest. The impressive Ayr scorer has quickly recovered to take his place in this line-up, though, and he is hard to oppose. Harry Brown made a pleasing debut on soft ground at Yarmouth earlier this month and he looks the obvious danger, while Karl Burke's newcomer Naomi's Charm might prove best of the remainder.
Prediction : 1st Clearpoint 2nd Harry Brown 3rd Naomis Charm

BOOSALA is a likeable, consistent sort and could stamp his class on this race. Virtually all of his form is rock solid and he did well to finish as close as he did over an extended 7f at Chester last time, so another bold bid looks assured. The Attorney has been put up 3lb for his narrow Goodwood defeat but Benoit De La Sayette claims 5lb on this occasion, which makes him a leading player. Biggles has won his last three and cannot be ruled out either.
Prediction : 1st Boosala 2nd The Attorney 3rd Biggles

17:13 Newcastle

Vulcan only found well-backed favourite Ziggy too good at Haydock last time and he warrants respect lining up off a 2lb higher mark, while Strawberri and Sea The Shells are others to watch out for. The vote, however, goes to the lightly weighted LASTING LEGACY. The Lethal Force mare brings winning course form to the table, posted a solid runner-up effort at Salisbury last time and can only benefit from having excellent 5lb apprentice Harry Davies in the saddle.
Prediction : 1st Lasting Legacy 2nd Vulcan 3rd Strawberri
