Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action.
The Laura Morgan trained THE VOLLAN (best priced at 11/4) has improved on his previous two starts since Adam Wedge has been on board and the pair should hold strong claims in this race. The eight-year-old won on his penultimate start over this course and distance off a mark of 103 before finishing a close 2nd last time off a 2lb higher mark at Hexham.
The Vollan was only beaten 1 ¾ lengths eight days ago but gets to run here off the same mark of 105 and should prove hard to beat back over this course and distance.
A chance is taken on KARRATHA (best priced at 12/1) who makes her handicap debut on her first start for Richard Fahey. The three-year-old daughter of Australia has showed very little in her career so far beaten 39, 16 and 23 lengths when sent off 33/1, 150/1 and 200/1 on her three starts for Ken Condon. She has been transferred from Ireland over to Richard Fahey for the same owners and now makes her handicap debut off an opening mark of 54 on her stable debut.
Karratha is fitted with first time blinkers for this race and interestingly is also stepped up in trip from a mile to 1m4f for her stable debut. She looks worth taking a chance on with Tony Hamilton taking the ride.
DO YA FEEL LUCKY (best priced at 2/1) was a well backed winner for us eight days ago and she should prove hard to beat under a 7lb penalty. That was her first run since a wind operation where the David Pipe trained eight-year-old won easily by 13 lengths at Worcester over 2m4f.
Do Ya Feel Lucky had previously won over 2m7f at Worcester last year off a mark of 97 so she should appreciate this step back up in trip and she still looks competitively handicapped under this 7lb penalty. Course winner Brianna Rose looks the biggest danger but I will be disappointed if Do Ya Feel Lucky doesn’t follow up in this race.
