GYTO's Thursday notebook double pays 8/1.
This looks a good race so should throw up plenty of future winners but I’m keen to side with KNIGHT OF HONOUR for John and Thady Gosden. This colt by Decorated Knight has progressive form to his name and caught the eye going down just a neck at Leicester last month. That looks a decent piece of form so it was no great surprise to see him improve again to win impressively at Goodwood last time. He had Broadspear trailing by 2 and a quarter lengths in second and was firmly in control at the line. That rival gets a 4lb swing at the weights now but for me that still isn’t enough to see the form reversed. Secret Image may pose a greater threat as if you forgive him his Meydan excursions he is very interesting on 2yo form having got within a neck of beating Emily Upjohn. He may well need this though. Paradias is also on the up so I expect him to acquit himself well too.
With two wins from his last three now WONDER STARELZAAM can salute the judge again at Newbury on Thursday. He showed a great attitude to get on top at Windsor last month and the filly he beat New Heights is a very solid yardstick. He failed to give his running at Sandown next time but was given a lot to do on that occasion and could just never land a blow. Perhaps wasn’t ideally suited by the track? He quickly put that behind him here last time travelling strongly throughout before staying on readily to win in good style. That was an apprentice event so he goes unpenalised and it’s hard to see how he doesn’t go close again with George Bass claiming a handy 5lb. Hotspur Harry looked a million dollars winning at Nottingham at the start of the month and went very close to following up at York. If he looks the part in the prelims again then he is the most likely danger to the selection.
