It is very hard to oppose CRAVEN, who displayed plenty of promise when finishing second on his racecourse debut at York a couple of weeks ago. The son of Havana Gold is entitled to improve for that experience and he is clearly the one to beat today. Carvetii and The Van Man are others with valid form claims, while Rock Of England is a newcomer to note.
Prediction : 1st Craven 2nd The Van Man 3rd Carvetii

FIERY BOND took a significant step forwards at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago and that form gives him a big chance this afternoon. Equity's Darling and Jim's Cracker both displayed promise on their respective debuts and it would be no surprise to see either of them go well. Castan edges out Patricia Grey and Star Of Midnight to be the pick of the remainder.
Prediction : 1st Fiery Bond 2nd Equitys Darling 3rd Jims Cracker

Breckland merits plenty of respect having returned to winning ways over a mile at Chepstow last time, although a 4lb rise will make his life tougher today. With that in mind, preference is for PHOTOGRAPH, who was third in a similar event at Ripon last time and he is 1lb lower in the ratings this afternoon. The shortlist is completed by Bellevue Lad, Maylah and All Things Bright.
Prediction : 1st Photograph 2nd Breckland 3rd Bellevue Lad

SO GRATEFUL has been knocking on the door as of late and has been creeping up in the ratings as a result of his consistency. Nonetheless, he was only beaten a short head over this course and distance last month, and retains the mark from a good second at Redcar more recently. Enderman is more exposed than the selection but is capable of a decent showing, while Brazen Idol remains of interest if transferring his all-weather form onto turf.
Prediction : 1st So Grateful 2nd Enderman 3rd Brazen Idol

15:25 Thirsk

This could go the way of SWINGING EDDIE, given his latest win at Ayr over this distance earlier in the month. He made all on that occasion and won comfortably, so a 3lb rise for that run seems fair. Langholm is feared, but he has gone up 6lb for his most recent win and may have to find extra to get on terms with the selection. Northbound has every chance of improving following his latest showing.
Prediction : 1st Swinging Eddie 2nd Langholm 3rd Northbound

RATHBONE was a narrow winner of this race last year when running off a 1lb higher mark than this afternoon. The six-year-old gelding has already shown his well-being this season when winning at Doncaster in April and could record his third track win. Aplomb looked an unlucky loser at Nottingham last time when a neck second after stumbling leaving the stalls and he may go one better. Cairn Gorm was a respectable fourth at Windsor last time and is entitled to strip fitter following that seasonal debut.
Prediction : 1st Rathbone 2nd Aplomb 3rd Cairn Gorm

16:30 Thirsk

Although we haven't seen JULIA AUGUSTA since December when she was an authoritative winner of a novice race at Kempton on debut, she's taken to pick up from where she left off. Roger Varian looks to have given the daughter of Ulysses plenty of time to mature and this could be a springboard to bigger and better things. The main danger appears to be Cubana Habana, who was an easy winner at Hamilton in May, while Positive Force has progressed with each run and is also worth considering.
Prediction : 1st Julia Augusta 2nd Cubana Habana 3rd Positive Force

17:03 Thirsk

William Haggas continues to fire in the winners and looks to have a solid chance here with BALGOWAN, who produced a solid effort over this trip at Yarmouth last Friday and may improve further for the application of first-time cheekpieces. Little Emma Loulou certainly wasn't stopping over 1m3f at Carlisle and merits consideration now looking to follow up, while Marbuzet cannot be ruled out either.
Prediction : 1st Balgowan 2nd Little Emma Loulou 3rd Marbuzet
