When there are so many unknowns I do in the main try and steer clear but such was the promise AMERICAN IN PARIS showed on debut she has to be a play here for Hugo Palmer. This Starspangledbanner filly went down by the smallest of margins missing by just a short head at Bath last month. Given she dwelt at the start and was learning on the job that was a huge run and another stride and she would have been victorious. She is in effect a winner without a penalty and with further improvement to come I’m pleasantly surprised to see odds against at the time of writing. Obviously there could be a smart newcomer lurking but they are going to need to be pretty forward to get the better of her as she will be a lot more streetwise now. Of the debutants Galileo Gold filly Love Getaway is probably the most interesting so worth keeping an eye on.

I thought there was lots to like about the way ENFORCED knuckled down to get the better of the argument at Brighton and then he improved again to make a winning handicap debut over C&D a couple of weeks ago. He seemed to find again at the finish to run down the right horse in Roxzoff and up just 5lb from that with further improvement to come he should have too much for these rivals. He is obviously bred to be a fair bit better than a mark of just 90 so I’m pleasantly surprised to see 3/1 on offer at the time of writing. Evocative Spark is capable of big numbers and has won 2 of his last 3 now but I’m not convinced this track will suit and like we saw at Goodwood he can throw in a stinker now and then. Noble Dynasty was disappointing at both Haydock and on final start so has a bit to prove but still has potential so shouldn’t be completely ignored.
