The nature of this race seems tougher, but his dam was a dual Grade 1 winner in the USA and won a Listed race in France earlier in her career, so the selection may well be able to handle better opposition. Jimi Hendrix was not disgraced in a class 2 at Royal Ascot on his latest start, while the Charlie Appleby-trained Bay Of Honour is another not to be taken lightly on his handicap bow.

A small field but one which contains some smart prospects, and the decision of Charlie Appleby to run C&D debut winner Victory Dance should be viewed most positively, given that the Newmarket handler has sent out plenty of his top juveniles to win this race on the back of a single run. However, with the betting market likely to reflect that fact, it may prove best focusing on ISAAC SHELBY, an impressive debut winner at Newbury in May, while the promising Lion Of War, also unbeaten, should figure prominently as well.

MONTASSIB lost his unbeaten record when not getting much luck in running in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, eventually finishing fifth behind the likes of Ropey Guest (second) and Rhoscolyn (third). That effort showcased the 10lb rise for his handicap debut success at Goodwood was more than justified and the four-year-old is open to further progression on just his fifth career start. Samburu wasn't disgraced when sixth in the Jersey at the Royal meeting and he is of interest back in handicap company, especially being 8lb well-in compared to future contests. Jumby, who was third in the Wokingham, and the aforementioned Rhoscolyn are others who boast strong claims.

PERFECT POWER seemingly didn't stay the 1m trip in the 2000 Guineas two starts ago but bounced right back to form when returned to this distance in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last month. That win was all the more impressive having come from an uncompromising position and he will prove extremely hard to beat with a repeat performance. Flaming Rib finished second that day and will likely show up well again, while the first three home in the Platinum Jubilee, Naval Crown, Creative Force and Artorius, also demand respect. Happy Romance and Cadamosto also ran well at the Royal meeting and could outrun their odds here.

Bizarre Law's recent win at Goodwood was boosted by the runner-up taking a valuable handicap at Haydock last Saturday and he is expected to be in the mix here, along with Commonsensical, who won the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle on his latest start.
