In The Giving disappointed on debut but her trainer does well with his juveniles.

MICKEY THE STEEL remains a maiden after 20 starts but may finally get his head in front. The four-year-old looks a genuine sort who runs his races while always just bumping into one or two too good. It is surely just a matter of time before he gets his head in front and reverting to maiden company looks a wise move. Although he has to give weight away to the three-year-olds, his jockeys claim offsets most of it. Plankton has finished second on both career starts to date so has to be a live threat to the Joseph Murray trained gelding. On the evidence of the midweek results at this track, drawn high appears the place to be. Elephant John only made his debut on Wednesday but is turned out quickly in the hope of going one better than his second over 7f.

TAI SING YEH probably didn't quite get home over a mile at Bellewstown recently so is interesting dropping back in trip. The eight-year-old won three times for Johnny Levins earlier in the season and has looked on good terms with himself on two starts for new connections. Breakfast Club holds similar claims to his new stablemate. The James McAuley trained runner looked to have been delivered with a well-timed challenge over 7f here in midweek but weakened close home. He will be a different proposition back at sprinting. Pretty Smart stayed on well at Naas last weekend and looks to be running into form. She is well handicapped off her current rating. Theriverrunsdeep would have every chance if she gets a clear passage from her low draw.

AMIRAT ALWARD made all to score over an extended 6f in Listowel and is drawn to go forward from stall one. She didn't cut much ice when upped in class for a fillies' Listed race at Carlisle, but connections are gunning for black-type with her. Nathan Crosse takes 3lb off her back, so she is just 4lb higher than when delivering in Listowel. Eddie Lynam outlined a plan to try Collective Power over 6f again after he won over the minimum trip at Down Royal. That victory has been well franked. All three of his successes came over 5f, but this strong traveller ought to be competitive over 6f. Blind Beggar has more than enough talent to be a player here. He has been a beaten favourite in four of his six outings since arriving in Ireland, but there are races in him. Dandyville is two from two over C&D, so could bounce back.

STAR GIRLS AALMAL's form looks very strong with fourth places in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and then in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, when suffering a less than clear route. Her run in the Irish 1,000 Guineas can be marked up as the runner-up has since landed the Epsom Oaks and the horse behind her in sixth has taken a Group 2. Emphatic Answer has been placed in her last two starts in Group 2 and Listed company. She gets further than this trip, but may not want to see 'firm' in the going description. Affogato is clearly going the right way having won both her starts this season including a three-runner race on quick ground over C&D last month. She is all heart and there should be more to come from her. Market strength behind Paddy Twomey's Diadora would be interesting given the season he is having.

RIHANI ran his best race to date when third over an extended 1m3f at Limerick which bodes well for this test. He clearly prefers better ground and appeals in receipt of weight from his four rivals. He gets first-time cheekpieces. Explorers Way is sure to be popular on the back of a close second, beaten by a neck, over an extended 1m1f at Ballinrobe. He didn't make an impression over this sort of trip when fourth at Tipperary on his penultimate start, but is well worth another crack at it. He avails of Jake Coen's 7lb claim. Nectarine is dropping down the weights which makes her dangerous. Prophets Voice's runner-up berth at Limerick gives him claims, however, his form is on slower ground.

CRACKAWAY has an each-way chance. He returned from more than six months off with a reasonable sixth place at Limerick last month after making up late ground. This former Sligo handicap hurdle winner showed up well when last seen on the Flat in autumn (second at Down Royal and fourth in Dundalk). French Company has been running very consistently all year. He got a deserved turn at Dundalk in February and another victory could be on the horizon. Storm Steps is a C&D winner who wasn't at his best when last seen in Down Royal. He can get involved. Magi Gal has been sliding down the handicap and signalled a return to form when third at Bellewstown. It is worth noting that she has a fast-ground victory in the book.
