UK Horse Racing Tips: Killarney

BENNY THE DUKE had a couple of very good runner-up efforts in strong maiden hurdles last winter and should be up to winning a race of this standard on his return. The Libertarian gelding attracted support from big prices when chasing home Quantum Realm on his jumping debut at Punchestown and was also second to ill-fated Grade One winner Ginto on his subsequent outing at Navan. That looks very strong form in the context of a summer maiden hurdle. Glenglass, for the same connections as Ginto, has been a touch disappointing over hurdles to date and it will be interesting to see if the application of blinkers can bring improvement. Meetingofthewaters was well held at Tramore last time but had been a solid third in a Ballinrobe maiden hurdle before that and has claims at his best.

Stepping back up in trip here should help MOLLY WEDGER who failed to get involved last time over the minimum trip at Bellewstown. The Doyen filly was a good winner over this distance at Listowel previously and had also run well when third on a visit here in May so the Kerry air obviously agrees with her. She sets the standard off a mark of 127. Hollymount comes here on a hat-trick and has to be respected as she looks to be improving. Giving 8lb to the selection leaves her needing to run to a mark in the mid 130s and it remains to be seen if she's that level. Whatucallerher, rated 5lb inferior to the selection, also has to come into calculations.

Adrian Murray has his team in fine form and VALE OF GLORY may be able to give him another winner. He has run well on his last couple of outings at Roscommon, beaten narrowly there last month before finishing fifth on his most recent visit. He got hampered and shuffled back early on on his last run and was probably better than his finishing position having had to make up plenty of ground. Off the same mark there looks a race in him. The Grey Lad has to be respected after a cosy victory at Down Royal early last month. He did get a 10lb hike for that though so life may be tougher now. Pat Coyne ran well over fences last time and off a 17lb lower mark over timber could be each-way material.

SEARCH FOR A MYTH only went down by half a length when last seen at Clonmel in May and looks up to winning a race of this standard now. That form has worked out well as there were a couple of subsequent winners a good bit behind him that day. He went up 3lb for that effort but could still be nicely treated. Rule Of June is an interesting rival as she was in good form in point-to-points in the spring. Off a low mark of 83 she could go well in this kind of company on her return to the 'track'. Problem Solver ran well at a big price when last seen at Limerick in early February and is another that has to come into the mix.

SPHAGNUM turns out quickly here after his wide margin success at Sligo the other day. Shane Broderick's charge is only due to go up the 7lb he carries as a penalty here but it may pay to strike again while the iron is hot. The Urban Poet gelding pulled away in good style at the finish four days ago and looks capable of collecting again in a moderate enough looking heat. My Friend The Wind could be a danger after a decent run to finish third on his return to action at Listowel last month. Da Big Fella may improve from his seasonal debut at Limerick and is fitted with blinkers for the first time now.

PLAY THE GAME was running a big race, and was still there challenging, when falling two from home in a competitive race at Bellewstown last time. He remains on the same mark and could prove the pick in a tricky looking contest where plenty of his rivals have questions to answer. Name Me Famous is one of the few coming here with solid recent form. He was well held when third at Tramore last time and may have enough weight now but it wouldn't be a surprise if he got involved. The Names Jock disappointed on the Flat last time but reverts to hurdling now and looks one to note in a first time tongue-tie.

Patrick Mullins is an eye-catching booking for the Peter Fahey-trained newcomer DARE STONE. The Ballylinch Stud-owned gelding has a very strong Flat pedigree, the son of Fascinating Rock is a half-brother to several winners, most notably Group 3 winner High Heeled who was also third in the Oaks. Another of his half-sisters is the dam of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Just The Judge. Gordon Elliott saddles a couple of newcomers and Nottodaybobo is interesting. The Flemensfirth gelding is a full-brother to dual winner Shesadream and a half-brother to four-time winner Off Your Rocco. John McConnell had a good winner with a point-to-point recruit, Encanto Bruno, recently and Kinbara, who won his sole start between the flags in Broughshane, is one to note in the market.

Aine O'Connor takes the mount on MON COEUR who has shaped well in his two starts to date. The Fame And Glory gelding was fourth on his debut at Punchestown before a solid run to finish third over course and distance in May. A repeat of that run would make him the one to beat. Jody Townend is a notable booking for the John Kiely-trained newcomer Fruit Hill. The Kingston Hill gelding is a half-brother to Joanne One, who won a Listed bumper for the yard a few years back. Brookie shaped with promise in a couple of maiden hurdle outings in the spring and could be one to note in the market.
