After a string of good runs, PONS AELIUS deservedly got his head back in front at Newmarket last time. This Galileo colt made all the running on that occasion and stayed on strongly at the finish. He is up 3lb but could easily have more to come despite a busy spell and I think he is the value play in here. If you look at his form in defeat it has all worked out well chasing home the ultra progressive Mostly Cloudy at Nottingham before bumping into Thundering on the AW at Newcastle and then subsequent winner Wickywickywheels at Hamilton. Even the horse he beat at Newmarket Pub Crawl has come out and pushed an improving handicapper in Special Envoy close at Windsor so it all stacks up. He goes back up in trip to a mile and three quarters but could easily have further improvement to come. The danger could turn out to be Nathaniel filly Suspicious who goes up in trip for her handicap debut.
