UK Horse Racing Tips: Galway

UNANSWERED has been busy already this week with two runs on the level but might be worth following if turning out again here over hurdles, following a Flat engagement here on Friday evening. The Intello gelding has been a big improver on the Flat and still looks on a nice mark over timber as he is less exposed in this sphere. He was an easy winner when last seen over hurdles at Punchestown in May and despite a 13lb hike for that win there still looks a bit to work with. Darkened and Listentillitellyea face off again after just a nose separated the pair in a head bobber here on the opening night. The former has gone on to run well again on the Flat since and there shouldn't be much between them again at the weights.

This looks wide open and former course winner LOUDEST WHISPER may be worth a shot. She ran well on her latest start at Belllewstown when staying on to finish third over this trip. The Maxios mare is a consistent sort and is on a mark that she can be competitive off. Perceval Legallois had been a bit frustrating before getting off the mark with a wide margin win at Wexford at the start of the month. That should have done his confidence good and he has the ability to go well on his handicap debut. Kells Priory has been knocking on the door and looks like place material in a tricky contest.

Last year's winner BATTLEOVERDOYEN ran well in the Plate here on Wednesday and this looks a nice opportunity to get him back into the number one spot. The former Grade 1 winner, over hurdles and fences, hadn't quite looked the force of old last season but slipped a bit in the handicap as a consequence and ran a solid race here the other day. He kept on to finish fifth to Hewick and if that race hasn't taken too much out of him he's the one to beat in this. The nine-year-old is top rated off his current mark of 149 with Doctor Duffy next best on 143. It's hard to fancy Charles Byrnes' charge who has been pulled up on his last couple of outings. Likewise Agusta Gold has a bit to prove on recent form. The danger could come from Politesse who was a cosy winner of the Connacht National at Roscommon last month.

Henry de Bromhead saddles three in this with Rachael Blackmore taking the mount on ZARKAREVA. The Authorized mare was last seen chasing home one of today's rivals Espion Du Chenet at Punchestown in late May and is now 4lb better off with that rival, who won from a few pounds out of the handicap that day. That was her first run since last Christmas and she looks capable of landing a nice prize like this on decent ground. Stablemate Cornerkova has won her last two over fences and looks an obvious danger. She was left well clear when winning in Tipperary last time and this will be a more competitive event now. Russian Diamond was due to have his first chase outing here on Friday since finishing mid-division in the Paddy Power last Christmas. He warmed up for this with a spin over hurdles at Ballinrobe in late May and could be an each-way bet now.

CASANOVA did best of those that ran in the Colm Quinn BMW Mile on Tuesday evening, so provided the quick turnaround isn't an issue, he should go very close under young Adam Caffrey. The Ado McGuinness trained gelding won back-to-back starts within a week last September, so should be fine in that regard. Stablemate Saltonstall appeared to have been laid out for the aforementioned contest all season but suffered a nightmare passage throughout. That run can safely be ignored and despite probably needing an extra furlong at this stage of his life, his Galway record is hard to ignore. On A Session commands respect as he bids to go one place better than last year. The English raider was slightly unlucky when just denied by Current Option in 2021. The latter also returns in an attempt to follow up.

WILD ROVER can continue a good festival for Jessica Harrington and Shane Foley by taking this competitive affair. Although disappointing at Navan on his second start, the colt had excuses having got upset in the stalls. His runs either side of that disappointment give him a leading chance, while his low draw and racing experience could prove crucial around this tight track. Karaoke was sent off at odds on for her racecourse debut at Gowran but met one too strong on the day. The experience will not have been lost on the Joseph O'Brien runner who is lightly to be much sharper now. Evening's Empire flashed home once the penny finally dropped at Navan last time. She won't find it easy from the widest draw but could be an above average filly who is capable of a bold showing.

LADY ARWEN didn't enjoy the best of runs when third here earlier in the week but can gain compensation granted a more favourable passage. The James Barrett trained filly finished strongly over 7f on that occasion, so shouldn't have an issue stepping up to a mile here. Eighty Eight was runner-up to the Barrett filly at Gowran in May but returned to that same venue to put up a much more impressive performance last month. Although only third at Down Royal last time, the race was not run to suit the Johnny Murtagh trained gelding as he was forced to make his own running. He should be dangerous coming from off the pace here. Three Laws merits consideration on her handicap debut, while dual winner Arch Enemy is not without a chance.

MARINE NATIONALE who looked a very smart horse on his debut at Punchestown can confirm that potential here. The Barry Connell trained son of French Navy travelled easily throughout that race before quickening up to win easily. Galway is likely to have been the plan since he crossed the winning line at the County Kildare track. No Risk No Fun also made an impressive winning debut and coming from the Willie Mullins stable he has to be respected. Although the bare form of his Wexford win is nothing special, the manner of his success stamped him down as one to follow. Mon Coeur took time to get his head in front but was good at Killarney last time. Pat Taaffe is riding really well at the moment so his booking is notable. On The Sixth Day also deserves consideration after a solid display at Sligo.
