14:25 Ripon
Beaten just a length and a half at Hamilton if IMPERIAL KHAN improves again he will have a massive chance of getting off the mark at Ripon on Monday. He showed plenty of promise on his first 3 starts and was subsequently heavily backed for his handicap debut where he completely blew out. He finished last at Musselburgh but was eased when his chance had gone. He proved his mark not to be as stiff as it first appeared going close at 20/1 at Hamilton and now he is working out what is required I think he’ll go close here off the same mark. In an ideal world I’d love to see him get taken into the race by something and there is potential for pace around him from Tiberio Smile and Arriannie. If he gets a good toe in I’m confident he’ll turn out to be a fair bit better than his current mark. On the figures Prayer Matt is the danger but I still think she’ll prove vulnerable late on.
18:40 Carlisle
Given recent form CLIFFTOP HEAVEN is expected to take a lot of beating at Carlisle on Monday. This horse is by Canford Cliffs so perhaps it was inevitable he would improve at some point but he certainly looks in good hands with Archie Watson now. He showed just what he is capable of winning by 8 lengths at Doncaster and while he was denied at Wolverhampton last time he went down just a head and the winner Psyche looks back on the up for Chris Gordon. They pulled readily clear from the rest and despite being 3lb higher here he remains well handicapped (won off this mark in the past). Brodie Hampson has developed a good partnership with him and I’m confident he’ll go off shorter than 4/1 come post time. Wynford is a tricky ride but Saffie Osborne is improving all the time so this chestnut looks the danger despite his recent form. Hackberry is also noted but has enough to prove on turf.
