Tenebrism bids to follow in the footsteps of her stablemate Mother Earth who won this race last season as a three-year-old for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore but with questions marks over this mile trip, preference instead goes to the favourite SAFFRON BEACH (best priced at 10/11). The Jane Chapple-Hyam trained four-year-old has form figures of 20111 over a mile in her career including victories in Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes last season and the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot this year under a penalty.

Saffron Beach won a Group 3 as a two-year-old on soft ground so this slower ground shouldn’t inconvenience her too much and I expect her to add a second Group 1 to her honours.

The Ian Williams trained THUNDER FLASH (best priced at 3/1) is unbeaten since being fitted with headgear on his penultimate start and he should hold strong claims of completing a hat-trick of wins. The five-year-old won by a nose at Leicester off a mark of 53 in June before winning off only 1lb higher over that same course and distance in July.

The first of those victories was in first time cheekpieces and the second in a first time visor which is retained for this race and if it can repeat the effect then Thunder Flash should prove hard to beat off a 4lb higher mark.

Captain Corcoran has been well supported for this race in the overnight markets but he looks plenty short enough with recent form figures of 8990 and preference instead goes to the solid JET SET GO (best priced at 3/1) who comes into this race having finished 2nd on her previous two starts. The Seb Spencer trained seven-year-old is yet to win in her 19 race career but she has been beaten less than a length on her previous two starts.

Jet Set Go was beaten a neck at Beverley off a mark of 49 before finishing 2nd by ¾ length at Ayr when fitted with a first time tongue tie off a mark of 51. She runs in this race off the same mark and is now fitted with cheekpieces for the first time since June last year. Jockey Dale Swift knows her well and I think she can finally get off the mark.
