UK Horse Racing Tips: Kilbeggan

NIKINI appears to have been found an ideal opportunity to make a winning debut over timber. The Willie Mullins-trained mare has acquitted herself well in much stronger races in bumper company of late. Spick And Span has every chance of making up for a late exit at Ballinrobe last time. The JP McManus-owned five-year-old had just started to get into the race when she departed at the second-last hurdle. Freddie Robdal may want further before he is seen at his best but the De Bromhhead runner still has to be respected. Estepona Sun has yet to win over flights but has been in fair form on the Flat. It is surely just a matter of time before he gets his head in front.

Although there should again be little between Mr Macphisto and CRACKLINROSE based on their recent meeting here, the latter just gets the verdict. On that occasion, the John Ryan-trained mare kept on strongly when less than a length behind the winner. Mr Macphisto has to give an extra 1lb now and that may just be his undoing. Movie King is not badly treated over hurdles relative to his Flat form but, to date, the five-year-old has failed to exploit a reasonable mark. However, after just the five runs over flights, he remains more unexposed than most in this race. Ballyglass Beauty still held every chance when falling at Sligo, but has plenty to find on overall form.

Peter Fahey can continue his excellent recent form courtesy of ESPERTI. The Presenting gelding has been knocking on the door in similar company recently, including when runner-up at Galway last week. He may just handle this tight track better than main threat Secret She Keeps, who won her point-to-point last October and has since shown promise in three runs under Rules. If taking to Kilbeggan, she has the class to win this but it's possible the Henry de Bromhead-trained mare might just prefer a more galloping track. Simpletwistoffaith has already proven his ability to act around here after running a career-best fourth on his stable debut in July.

STREETS OF DOYEN may have too much staying power for Darver Star. The John McConnell-trained gelding reverts to hurdles for the first time this season, having finished fourth in a Listed chase on his most recent start. In the aftermath of that run, McConnell suggested that the eight-year-old might just be a better hurdler than chaser. Darver Star was a higher rated horse over flights in his prime but has yet to prove he wants this trip. He showed a definite return to form when second at Cork last time, but this is tougher. Doctor Duffy was well beaten at Cork in midweek but is interesting here on a track where he has already proven himself. He isn't totally out of it when taking his jockey's claim into consideration.

John Ryan and Danny Mullins, who have formed such a formidable partnership in recent seasons, could have the answer with CHIEF SEATTLE. The seven-year-old flashed home to finish a close third at Roscommon in midweek and makes a quick reappearance now. Placed over hurdles here in June, the son of Casamento has plenty in his favour. Top-weight Pairc Na Ngael has to be considered on the back of a solid runner-up effort at Limerick. Charles Byrnes has his horses in good order and the JP McManus-owned gelding remains fairly handicapped. Steps Match has been very consistent in recent runs, so the Michael Butler-trained horse wouldn't be winning out of turn. Secret Cargo is another who merits consideration in a competitive heat.

JACK HACKETT is a real Kilbeggan specialist and could land his third course success. He enters this in good nick from his last three outings at this track. He took the runner-up berth over slightly further in May before a decisive victory over an extended 2m3f last month. He then reverted to hurdles and was placed over an extended 3m. Na Caith Tobac has made a good start to his chasing career, with a pair of victories in Downpatrick and a placed run at Wexford. He's up in class, but Ben Kennedy's 7lb claim means he gets plenty of weight from Jack Hackett. He could make a bold bid in first-time blinkers. Dontdooddson ran a cracker in a close fifth over C&D on his first start for Eoin McCarthy. He has to enter calculations. Arrycan has the ability to win one of these, but this trip around a tight track could be a bit sharp for him.

Willie Mullins' LEITRIM PARK was beaten at odds-on on debut at Limerick in April, but can find the necessary improvement. She raced keenly before dropping to third in the closing stages. A hood goes on now and Patrick Mullins is on board, seemingly in preference to the stable newcomer Hermine. Jockey Jody Townend has a good strike-rate for the stable and partners this Authorized mare, who is likely to go well. Gordon Elliott's Six Ace should improve considerably from a mid-division finish on debut in a Galway bumper. Elliott also takes the wraps off newcomer Wisteria Bloom, who should be given a market check.
