16:22 Leicester

Henry Candy is usually a trainer to follow when the money is down and RING OF LIGHT is being really well supported at Leicester this morning. This son of Mayson failed to menace in his first 3 starts albeit sent off at odds of 40/1, 150/1 and 150/1 again when only fifth at Wolverhampton. Perhaps unsurprisingly he took a big step forward to finish second on handicap debut last month. That was a nice effort having been up with the pace throughout and racing off the same mark if he improves again he will be right in the mix here. He is up against largely exposed sorts so if he can progress he would have a right chance. Cubanista reacted well to cheekpieces to win at Yarmouth and could threaten. A 9lb rise looks a little harsh though. Thrave can often travel into it well but doesn’t find a great deal off the bridle. The rest all have a bit to prove.

18:15 Haydock

Despite being a bit uneasy in the betting this morning I like the chances of TARRABB at Haydock on Sunday. This Exceed And Excel filly has won 2 of her 4 starts and ran on strongly to get the better of another promising horse in Out From Under at Ascot last month. That was a smart effort and up just 4lb with the step up to a mile looking likely to suit she will be hard to beat. This big field will play to her strengths and if she can pick her way through I think she’ll be finishing best. Queen Aminatu is likeable and while she has failed to fire in recent starts she was pitched into a Listed race last time and so will find this easier. She will likely go well for a long way and looks the danger. Canoodled obviously finished behind the selection last time so she is unlikely to be too far away again if managing to back that up here.
