15:25 Ripon

The Tim Easterby trained Garden Oasis (best priced at 7/2) won this race last season and he should hold strong claims off a 5lb lower mark this year. The seven-year-old has a good record at Ripon with three wins and five places from twelve appearances at the course in his career including two course and distance victories in August last year.

Garden Oasis won this race by a neck off a mark of 82 before following up in a Class 2 on his next start off a mark of 85 when defeating Kettle Hill by a nose. The gelding has dropped down to a mark of 77 following some below par performances but it was encouraging to see him only beaten ½ length over this course and distance on his penultimate start off a mark of 78. With conditions in his favour I feel he has a strong chance of repeating his victory from last year.

Seven furlongs is a specialist trip and therefore preference in this competitive Hungerford Stakes goes to Pogo (best priced at 10/3). The Charlie Hills trained six-year-old has form figures of 432165113 over this trip at listed level or higher including two Group 3 victories already this season. He beat Laneqash by a nose at Haydock in John Of Gaunt Stakes on his reappearance before defying a penalty to win the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket by two lengths on his previous start.

Pogo finished only ½ length behind Sandrine when 3rd in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood last month and he should have conditions to suit in this race. His mark of 115 means he is top rated in this field and he should prove hard to beat in this race.

This race revolves around the return of Luxembourg who lost his unbeaten record when 3rd in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in April. An injury ruled him out of the Epsom Derby and this is his prep race for bigger targets later in the season. Aidan O’Brien will have no doubt left a bit to work on in this race and I think he could prove vulnerable to the Willie McCreery trained Insineundo (best priced at 8/1) who is another returning from an absence. The five-year-old mare won a Group 2 over 1m1f here last season before finishing only 3 ½ lengths behind La Pepite Coco and Love in the Blandford Stakes on her final start last season over this course and distance.

Insinuendo pushed 1000 Guineas winner Mother Earth to within ¾ length on her reappearance at this course over a mile in a Group 3 off level weights shaping like this step back up in trip to 1m2f would suit. She is still unexposed having only had eight runs her career and I am hoping she can upset the favourite in this race.
