UK Horse Racing Tips: Roscommon

Ger Lyons does well when dropping his horses into claimers and BRINGBACKMEMORIES may be a case in point. The Iffraaj gelding was third a couple of times early in the season before finishing runner-up in a decent conditions event over course and distance in May. He's been disappointing on his latest two outings but should be a major player in this company. He goes without the headgear worn recently and any rain would be a plus. Mischief Star is a regular in these races and just got the better of Ideal Pal at Ballinrobe last month. The latter is 6lb better off but Mischief Star, runner-up at Leopardstown last week, is very reliable at this level and may confirm the placings. Supposedtobe was well behind Mischief Star at Gowran in May but has since run creditably in big-field handicaps for his new yard and is another to consider.

This looks a decent maiden and several have claims but MAGNETAR might be the one after a pleasing debut over a mile at Leopardstown. The Fastnet Rock colt, who holds Group 2 entries in the autumn, was third of six behind an impressive winner and the runner-up has since run well again at the Curragh. View Taken has a similar profile as he was also third over a furlong further on debut at Naas. Made favourite on that occasion, the Oasis Dream colt may well be better suited by this trip. Mister Mister showed ability at Killarney and gives the selection's trainer Joseph O'Brien a strong hand in this. Boy Scout was easy-to-back when fifth on debut at the Curragh and looks sure to improve while Betterdaysrcoming ran well at a huge price in a valuable sales race at Naas.

Those with form set the bar fairly high but Paddy Twomey is not a man who wastes entries and he obviously thinks a bit of IMPACT WARRIOR who is in the Rockfel Stakes and Fillies' Mile later in the autumn. The upwardly mobile trainer enjoyed more pattern success at Cork on Friday while one of his juveniles was touched off in a Listed race at the Curragh the following day. It will be interesting to see how strong his debutant is in the market. Fellow newcomer Parish Green is entered in the Dewhurst and also merits respect. Goa Gajah ran well in a Galway nursery after winning at Down Royal and may fare best of those with experience. Panic Alarm ran creditably in a couple of strong early-season maidens and comes back from a break having been gelded. This looks a stronger contest than the race in which San Anton was second at Galway.

Noel Meade's horses have come right back to form in the last ten days and he has good prospects of another winner here with the consistent MOE SEDWAY. The Gutaifan gelding was twice narrowly defeated over a mile at Gowran in the spring and was returning from a break when beaten fractions at Tipperary earlier this month. He's entitled to be sharper for that outing and can gain a deserved success. Solar Breeze just failed to get up over this trip at Naas in May and has continued to run creditably since. She was placed over a furlong further at the Curragh last month but this trip may suit better. Relevant Range was placed a couple of times over 6f earlier in the campaign before running twice in three days at the Killarney July meeting. His third in a useful rated race on the latter occasion was a decent effort and he's a player back in maiden company.

SHAWAAMEKH can continue the fine form of Johnny Levins. A three-time winner in Britain, the eight-year-old went in at the first time of asking for his new yard when scoring at Cork in May and has been placed on his last three starts. His Galway festival second to a horse completing a four-timer was an excellent effort and this tactically versatile performer can defy a 3lb higher mark. Earls is another hard-knocking type of handicapper and has four wins on the board. He is held by the selection on Galway form but had previously been touched off at Limerick which was the third time he's been runner-up this term. Is That Love had a whale of a time last year with six wins, the last of which was when beating Earls decisively at the Listowel festival. His comeback second at Fairyhouse suggests he may not be done with yet. Dual Sligo winner Band Width failed to land a blow from a bad draw at Galway but had previously been unlucky in running when close up behind Earls at Limerick.

COMFORT ZONE is hard to oppose after a good run in a stronger contest at Galway where he had a couple of these rivals in arrears. Twice runner-up over a mile last year, the Churchill gelding was well-fancied for his reappearance in the amateur riders' maiden which is always a lively betting heat. He didn't reward his supporters but got this trip well when not beaten far in fourth and the form was boosted by hurdling wins for the second and fifth later in the week at the festival. Mighty Mo Missouri was unfancied when only tenth in that same race but was less than four lengths behind the selection and is entitled to improve with that first run under his belt. Dermot Weld has had a couple of welcome winners in recent days and Monarchs Brae was a creditable fourth at the Curragh on his second start. He couldn't build on that when only mid-division behind the selection at Galway and it's hard to see him turning around that form.

THE TRUANT has to be of interest despite the drawback of being drawn in stall 19. He was a ready winner by three lengths over an extended 1m4f at Sligo, and the form got a tremendous boost when the runner-up came out and won decisively at Tramore on Saturday evening. The form of Kalmira's fourth place at Tipperary towards the end of June has been well endorsed. She won over this trip at Dundalk in January, and there should be more to come from her on turf. She gets first-time cheekpieces. Doctor Churchill won twice on all-weather tracks in Britain last year. He reverts back from hurdling where he was successful at Limerick, and was considered good enough to run in the Grade 3 Boodles at the Cheltenham Festival (unplaced). Course winner Final Endeavour is far from out of it. Isaiah is another for the shortlist.
