Steve Ryder shares his Tote Placepot tips for today's racing at York.
13:50 York
Leg 1 Selection: Dakota Gold
Dakota Gold has a fantastic record at York with six wins and two seconds from twelve runs at the course and he should give a good account once again in this race. He won this race in 2019 off a mark of 104 before winning over 6f here in May off a mark of 98. The Michael Dods trained eight-year-old runs here off a mark of 102 which should prove within reach and he comes into the race following two second placed efforts at both Newcastle and Ripon.
14:25 York
Leg 2 Selection: Mill Stream
MILL STREAM brings a good level of form into this race from his first two races and I feel this step up in trip to 7f will bring about some improvement in him. The Jane Chapple-Hyam trained colt won a Doncaster maiden by a head in July before finishing a close 2nd to current Gimcrack favourite Noble Style last time at Newmarket. He only lost by ½ length there shaping like this step up in trip should suit and I expect that extra run to give him an advantage over the likes of Local Dynasty, Hectic and Oviedo who all come here following debut wins.
15:00 York
Leg 3 Selection: Deauville Legend
This looks a competitive renewal of the Great Voltigeur Stakes but preference goes to DEAUVILLE LEGEND who is yet to run a bad race in his career. He won a Windsor maiden on his reappearance before finishing only a head behind the favourite Secret State at Royal Ascot on his first start over 1m4f. He has since won the Group 3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket before finishing a close 2nd behind St Leger favourite New London in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. That form looks stronger than the handicap win of Secret State and he looks sure to be involved in the finish.
15:35 York
Leg 4 Selection: Mishriff
With the smallest doubt still hanging over Baaeed at this trip of 1m2f it looks worth having MISHRIFF as the selection in this race. The John & Thady Gosden trained five-year-old won this race last season by six lengths in a really impressive performance and he has run with credit on both of his starts this season. He finished only a neck behind Vadeni in the Coral Eclipse at Sandown before once again finding 1m4f too far at Ascot last time. This drop in trip should suit him well and he should give the favourite a good race.
16:10 York
Leg 5 Selection: Master Milliner
Two-time course and distance winner MASTER MILLINER looks the solid option in this race and the Emma Lavelle trained gelding comes here on a hat-trick following two wins at Kempton and Goodwood. Those victories have both been by ¾ length at the finish but that has meant the handicapper has only raised the progressive six-year-old 4lbs and 5lbs and he looks the obvious selection back over this course and distance.
16:45 York
Leg 6 Selection: Designer
This looks a fiercely competitive 0-105 fillies’ handicap but preference goes to DESIGNER who comes into this race off the same mark as when she finished a close sixth at Royal Ascot. The three-year-old won over this trip of 5f at Chester last season before making a winning reappearance at Kempton over 6f. She finished only 1 ½ lengths behind the winner Latin Lover in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap at Royal Ascot last time staying on well at the finish under Tyler Heard and she should run well again off the same mark.
