The Richard Hannon trained Cheeky Maxi (best priced at 11/1) hasn’t run up to market expectations on his three starts so far but he is now of interest on his handicap debut off a mark of 71. He was sent off 15/8 favourite on his debut at Leicester but could only finish 9th before finishing 3rd at Newmarket on his next start when sent off 100/30. The colt had a 92 day break before stepping up in trip to 6f at Nottingham where he weakened late on to finish 6th beaten 20 lengths.

Connections now drop Cheeky Maxi back in trip to 5f which will suit as well as fitting him with first time cheekpieces. He clearly had shown ability at home to be sent off 4/1 or shorter on his first three starts so a mark of 71 could underestimate him and I expect a better performance.

With form figures at Carlisle of 17131 in her career, Gometra Ginty (best priced at 6/1) is respected back at this venue. The Keith Dalgleish trained mare won by a neck over this course and distance in June off a mark of 73 before running with credit off higher marks at Musselburgh and Catterick on her next three starts.

Gometra Ginty finished 5th, 4th and 5th on those starts but she was beaten less than four lengths on all three of those and that has meant that she has dropped down from a mark of 78 down to a mark of 75. She won off a mark of 80 last season so this rating shouldn’t be beyond her and I expect her to run well with four places on offer.

The Martin Todhunter trained Molinari (best priced at 5/2) won this race last season on his only start at the course and he is respected despite a higher mark this year. The five-year-old has been running consistently well for the last year with form figures of 11332332211 which has meant the gelding is now rated a stone higher this year.

Molinari won at Beverley by a neck on his penultimate start before winning at York last time by 1 ½ lengths off a mark of 77. The handicapper has raised him 3lbs for that victory which is fair and hopefully he can repeat his victory in this race last year.
