UK Horse Racing Tips: Kilbeggan

QUEL REVE and Pat's Choice are the stand-out names, with preference for the Willie Mullins-trained former. From the family of dual Grade 2 winner Let's Dance, the selection quickened in the manner of a smart horse to win on debut at Tramore in June. The daughter of Great Pretender starts off over flights now and is sure to go close. Pat's Choice has the advantage of hurdling experience, filling the runner-up spot on both starts to date. He was a bit disappointing when a well-beaten favourite on his most recent outing at Limerick and returns now from a near five-month break. Gordon Elliott trains Pat's Choice and he also saddles Come On Du Berlais. Successful in a bumper at Kelso in May, she can make her presence felt. Ithaka caught the eye at Limerick last time and it'll be interesting to see how he fares, while Estepona Sun and Edge Of My Seat are other leading hopes.

A good quality contest. With her mares allowance and Pat Taaffe taking 7lb off, CHAMPAGNE PROBLEM may prove hard to beat. The Fame And Glory bay ran out an impressive winner on her debut over flights at Cork, making all and coming home 14 lengths to the good. If adopting the same front-running tactics here, she may prove difficult to peg back. Senecia also impressed when winning at Wexford last month and is given second preference. He finished eight and a half lengths clear of Diamondinthemud at Bettyville and that one since gave the form a boost by winning on her next start at Downpatrick. The 120-rated Roaring Potter has some smart form to his name and is sure to have plenty of supporters, while Mister Beeton can't be dismissed after making the breakthrough when stepped up in trip at Roscommon.

A competitive affair with Tramore winners WOJOOD and Rotten Row sure to have plenty of supporters. The Denis Hogan-trained former is bidding for a hat-trick after winning at Ballinrobe on his penultimate start before following-up on the level at Graun Hill. Daniel King takes the ride on the six-year-old and he claims a valuable 7lb. Rotten Row sprang a 25-1 surprise in novice company at Tramore but may very well follow-up here off a mark of 105. Sargent Lightfoot won over the course and distance on his penultimate start, beating odds-on favourite Petrol Head into second. The son of Jeremy since finished a solid fourth at Cork and is well capable of making his presence felt. Sligo winner Via Rosa makes her debut in handicap company and warrants respect, while others for the shortlist are Grozni, Lariat and Lady Heath.

Nothing really stands out in this weak contest. Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott are represented by Valley Breeze and Run For Pat respectively. The former is far from being a leading light at Closutton but should be able to make his presence felt in a race of this quality. The 111-rated Run For Pat finished a good second on his penultimate start at Tipperary but since disappointed when sent off favourite at Down Royal. He goes back up in trip now to 3m and can be expected to go close. For a selection, ITSO VANGO gets the nod. He kept on nicely to take second on his most recent start at Limerick and finished a place ahead of subsequent Cork victor Dorans Boy. The Liz Doyle trained gelding is upped in trip now to 3m and this should play to his strengths. Grand Soir, the winner of a point-to-point on debut, is an interesting contender for John McConnell. He finished seventh on his first start over flights at Cork but can be expected to come on plenty for that run. Placed three times from four starts at Kilbeggan, Bowtie is another that warrants respect.

A case can be made for plenty of these. BACK THE WEST would be a deserving winner and could end a long barren spell for trainer Iggy Madden. The son of Mountain High was beaten a length-and-a-quarter into second by Pairc Na Ngael over the course and distance just under a fortnight ago and a reproduction of that performance should see him go close. Chief Seattle was fourth in that same contest and reopposes now. The John Ryan-trained gelding is a real stayer and should give a good account of himself with Danny Mullins in the saddle. Rachael Blackmore and John 'Shark' Hanlon combined to score with Hallowed Star at the Galway Festival and they team-up with Crobally Boy. This son of Stowaway went down by just a head on his most recent start at Roscommon and it'll come as no surprise if he manages to go a place better now. Good Man Turk looks capable of making an impact on his debut over fences, while others of interest are point-to-point winner Local Rogue and recent Tramore runner-up Rudy Catrail.

Just the eight runners but still a difficult contest to assess. Siberian Prince has the strongest form but looks a bit vulnerable carrying top-weight on what will be his handicap debut. Brave Way is another having her first start in handicap company. She was disappointingly beaten on her last visit to Kilbeggan but was successful in a weak contest on her most recent start at Limerick. She could step forward again here and is sure to have plenty of supporters. Dual course winner Jack Hackett has been a model of consistency this summer and it'll be interesting to see how he fares in first time cheekpieces. For a selection, ARTHUR'S BABY gets the nod. Without a win since September of 2020, the Mark McNiff-trained eight-year-old has been knocking on the door of late and should go close here with Gavin Brouder taking 5lb off. Old Town Garde is another that warrants respect, but in truth, none of the eight can be safely ruled out.

THECOMPANYSERGEANT is probably one of the safer options in this open contest. He came from off the pace to finish a good third on his racecourse debut at the Galway Festival and looks capable of going a few places better now with John Gleeson again in the saddle. Lake Winnipesaukee also came from off the pace to finish third at Cork on what was his debut for Gavin Cromwell. The son of Arcadio is open to further improvement and should go close. Champagnesocialist is another leading contender. She is a full-sister to Champagne Problem, the selection in the second. A runner-up on her first two starts in 2020 when trained by Tom Taaffe, she again finished second when returning to action on her debut for John McConnell at Musselburgh in January. Fourth and fifth at Sligo earlier this month, Artemis Angel and Set My Love Free both warrant respect, while Memories Never Die and High Ski are others of note.
