Leg 1 Selections: Mighty Ulysses

Mighty Ulysses beat the reopposing Alfaila at Newmarket last time in a listed race and he should be able to confirm that form in this Group 3 Strensall Stakes. The John & Thady Gosden trained colt finished only ¾ length behind Coroebus in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on his penultimate start and he looks sure to be involved in the finish with a rating of 113.

Leg 2 Selections: Soulcombe

Bottom weight Soulcombe has shown improved form since being gelded and fitted with blinkers and I expect this step up in trip to suit him well. He won at Haydock and Ascot earlier this season before finishing an eyecatching 4th at Goodwood last time. He was slowly away that day but stayed on well over the 1m4f trip shaping like this step up to 1m6f will suit. He is only 2lbs higher in this race and he looks sure to run well.

Leg 3 Selections: Rohaan

This looks an open renewal of the City Of York Stakes but preference goes to Rohaan. He has been in good form this season with a win in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot before two 4th placed efforts at Newbury in the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes and the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. He stayed on well over the 6f trip last time behind Nunthorpe winner Highfield Princess shaping like this step back to 7f should suit and I expect him to be involved in the finish.

Leg 4 Selections: Gaassee

The lightly raced four-year-old Gaassee is yet to finish out of the top three in his career so far and he is respected on his first start over 1m6f. He is a two-time winner over 1m4f including once at this course before finishing a close 3rd at Haydock last time in the Old Newton Cup handicap. He was given too much to do by Cieran Fallon that day who allowed the reopposing Get Shirty too much of a lead in the straight. This step up in trip will suit and he is one of the least exposed in this race.

Leg 5 Selections: Mums Tipple

Mums Tipple runs back over the same course and distance as his impressive 11 length victory in 2019 but now arrives into this race having recaptured his form last time. He was well backed into 2/1 joint favourite at Newmarket where he won by three lengths off a mark of 91 and he should run well once again of a 6lb higher mark with Frankie Dettori retaining the ride.

Leg 6 Selections: Rocket Rodney

Rocket Rodney is yet to finish out of the top two in his career and he is respected dropped down in class. He finished a neck 2nd to Little Big Bear in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot before winning the listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown in impressive style on his next start. He was caught late on at Goodwood in the Molecomb Stakes but this is easier and he should prove hard to beat.
