Karl Burke’s newcomers often come on for their debut runs so the run of BRIGHT DIAMOND (best priced at 9/2) should be upgraded. The daughter of El Kabeir was sent off a relatively unfancied 10/1 shot on her debut at Newmarket on the July course but she won impressively by nine lengths under Clifford Lee.

Bright Diamond won on good to firm ground at Newmarket so this good to soft ground is a slight question mark but I will be disappointed if she isn’t up to this Group 3 level.

This looks a competitive Class 2 handicap but preference goes to LYNDON B (best priced at 17/2) who was an impressive winner over this course and distance last time. The six-year-old has form figures of 321 at the course and this mark of 87 shouldn’t be beyond him. He won off a mark of 90 a couple of years ago at Sandown before winning off a mark of 82 last time over this course and distance.

Lyndon B was slowly away that day and had to wait for a gap before making good headway late on to win by 1 ¼ lengths. With up to five places available he looks sure to be involved in the finish.

The Clive Cox trained TIS MARVELLOUS (best priced at 3/1) ended last season in good form with two victories at Ascot as well as a victory in this race. The eight-year-old was an impressive 3 ¾ length winner in this last season under Paul Hanagan before defying a penalty to win the listed Rous Stakes at Ascot in October.

Tis Marvellous was only beaten four lengths in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on his reappearance before finishing midfield in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. He has been off 74 days since but a repeat victory in this race would have been an obvious target and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
