Following 7/1 and 7/2 winners over the weekend, Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's action.
14:14 Cartmel
The Mark Walford trained JOHNSON'S BLUE (best priced at 9/4) has recent form figures of 121111 and he should hold strong claims of completing a five-timer in this race. The progressive five-year-old completed a hat-trick of wins at Hexham earlier this season before winning by 9 ½ lengths over 2m6f here last time.
The handicapper has raised Johnson’s Blue 10lbs for that impressive victory but connections have booked 5lb claimer Tom Midgley to take off some weight and I expect him to prove hard to beat up in trip.
14:40 Epsom Downs
The William Knight trained CHARTWELL HOUSE (best priced at 2/1) has run with credit on his three starts to date and this race is easier than his latest contest at Goodwood last time. The son of Churchill finished 3rd on his debut at Windsor before finishing only a neck behind Eminency when 2nd over that same course and distance a month later.
Chartwell House only finished 5 ½ lengths behind Mischief Magic in a Class 2 maiden at Goodwood last time and he now drops back down in class to a Class 4 maiden here. Connections fit him with a first time hood which should help him settle and he can hopefully get off the mark on his fourth start.
14:45 Southwell
The favourite Glenister is worthy of respect given the manner of his victory on handicap debut last time but he looks a short price against the solid TYPEWRITTEN (best priced at 4/1). The Tom Ward trained four-year-old has been in consistent form since the application of cheekpieces with form figures of 532133 in headgear. He won over this course and distance in July off a mark of 50 before finishing 3rd on his latest two starts at Ffos Las.
Those runs have come off marks of 55 and Typewritten should run well yet again off the same mark back over this course and distance. Glenister should be suited by this step up in trip to 1m4f for the first time but he could prove vulnerable and Typewritten looks the obvious each way alternative.
