UK Horse Racing Tips: Newcastle

Previous C&D winner VERTICE was just touched off at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago on her first outing since March and, with the benefit of that run under her belt, she gets the vote. The Stella Barclay-trained Wildmountainthyme remains a maiden after 16 attempts but she ran well at Hamilton last month and could be winning a similar event sooner rather than later. Siofra was a well-supported favourite on her first start for George Scott but appeared to find the trip too sharp and could be worth another chance over further.

It's too early to lose faith in BATAL DUBAI, who was an impressive winner at Haydock on debut and, although he failed to back that up at Salisbury 13 days later, is worth another chance. Tribal Hunter shed his maiden tag in comprehensive style at Hamilton last month and has already shown his liking for this surface having been narrowly denied on his debut. Any market confidence behind the William Haggas-trained newcomer Paspaley should be noted.

Although he's conceding weight all around SOUND PRESSURE is fancied to make it three on the spin, having racked up wins at Redcar and most recently Beverley. The further he went the better he looked last time and this extra yardage looks sure to suit. Swift Lioness weakened inside the final furlong at Kempton when last seen but, being by Roaring Lion, she is bred to appreciate this stiffer test. Karl Burke is doubled handed here and both are respected, however, Ramz looks the most solid option having finished runner-up at Carlisle a fortnight ago.

On the face of things, MOON WATCH's odds-on reversal at Kempton last time was very disappointing. That said, with multiple winners coming out of that race subsequently, the son of Dubawi can be seen in a better light today. An eye catcher on debut at Thirsk in July, Dukeman is entitled to run the selection close in receipt of 7lb, with newcomer Our Absent Friends likely to be playing catch up.

OLD NEWS returned to form with a strong runner-up effort over C&D last month and with the in-form 7lb claimer Mark Winn taking over in the saddle, Linda Stubbs' charge can gain a first victory since January. Blackheath may be winless since June 2020, but he has run some solid races this season and can have a say along with Fire Eyes and Novak.

A winner of each of his last three starts, ROCKET ROD continues to go from strength to strength and an 8lb rise for his most recent success over C&D may not be enough to prevent him going in again. Narrowly denied the double at Carlisle on Tuesday, Desert Land could have a tough task upholding recent C&D form with Frankelio (third), and Devilwala (fourth), who are both better off at the weights. Placed on two of his last three outings here, Billy Wedge can't be ruled out either.

Newcomer Solar Orbiter may well have some say in the finish despite his lack of experience, and he might even get the better of Doncaster fourth Dance To Excel in the race for the places. That said, ULTRAMARINE had some decent form in Ireland, including at Group 1 level. He has his first start for new connections here and merits plenty of respect.

FLYLIKEANEAGLE has won three of his five starts since joining Lucinda Russell and although only third off this mark at Ayr, he is reunited with William Pyle who has won on him before and claims 7lb. That may see him get back to winning ways, but if not then Out Of Sight, absent so far this season, could be of some interest on his better 2021 form. Fearless Bay is another who would have a chance, but he ran inexplicably badly last time out and needs to put that run behind him.
