UK Horse Racing Tips: Naas

AMERICAN SONJA was easy to back on debut at the Curragh, but there was a lot to like about her close fourth. The horse a short head in front of her in third has since been good enough to win a Navan maiden. Beginnings starts out on her career with Aidan O'Brien and is an intriguing contender. She is by a prolific top-level winner who was Japanese horse of the year in his native country, out of double 1,000 Guineas winner Winter. Her half-sister was a recent winner of a maiden in Leopardstown. Spirit Gal built upon a promising fourth in the Curragh when beaten by a neck into second over C&D last month. She is certainly a player. One For Mum was only 3/1 for that race over C&D, but finished sixth. She is a potential improver.

Mount Ruapehu sets the standard as he has been placed in his last three sprint races. He wasn't beaten far into third at the Curragh and over C&D after showing plenty of early speed. He hasn't been as strong at the finish, though, and this is a stiff climb, so the standard isn't insurmountable. Preference is for Aidan O'Brien's debutant HISPANIC. O'Brien is operating at a 35 per cent strike rate, at the time of writing, with his juveniles in Ireland this season and this No Nay Never colt will know his job. Ger Lyons takes the wraps off Kingman colt Pier Pressure who is well worth a market check.

Tremendous prize money down to 10th place in this dash and plenty of British raiders. MIAMI GIRL has prospects of taking the winning share across the Irish Sea. This Cotai Glory filly has banked two victories and has been far from outclassed in ventures into Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 races which sees her on a mark of 90. Drying ground shouldn't inconvenience her. John Quinn annexed a big pot at the Curragh on Sunday and his Signora Camacho is a threat. She hasn't been out of the first three in her last six outings and took the honours in Ayr and Chelmsford City. She holds a Listed entry in Redcar at the start of next month. Jessica Harrington's Polar Bear was pipped by a neck in a premier nursery at Navan which brings him into contention. Felix Natalis is more than capable of having a say.

Michael O'Callaghan saddled two juveniles to win at Punchestown on Monday and DRUNK IN LOVE could be another for him. She has one piece of form that leaps off the page when she finished runner-up to a horse who then landed a pair of Group 3 races in addition to a Group 2. The first-time hood could be useful as she has raced freely before. Calling All Angels catches the eye. She has been beaten over five lengths in all three fillies' maidens to date, but she could be just the type to do some damage in a nursery, particularly with Paddy Harnett taking 7lb off her back. In effect, she is running off a mark of 68. McCauley's Tavern avails of Jamie Powell's 7lb claim and new cheekpieces. He is far from out of it. Colin Keane is a notable booking for Sioux Sweet who has shown enough to get in the mix.

MALBAY MADNESS landed a gamble from 7lb out of the handicap at Killarney, beating Approaching Bear by a nose. Raised a manageable 11lb for the win, connections again declared him to run from 17lb out of the handicap at Cork on September 7, before withdrawing due to heavy ground, and while he is 3lb worse off with Approaching Bear, remains unexposed and is suited by conditions. Killarney's fourth and fifth-placed horses won subsequently while Approaching Bear subsequently finished third, although is slightly more exposed. Slaney Tide was third at Killarney and while 5lb better off with the selection, might struggle to win. Johnny Murtagh's Ard Mhacha missed Killarney (when lame) and while he ran well at Galway, needs to improve in first-time cheekpieces. Hasten Slowly is tried in blinkers and wasn't beaten too far at the Curragh in August and steps up a furlong.

BETTERDAYSRCOMING threw away a winning opportunity when shying at a road crossing at Bellewstown and runs in a first-time visor. His form is consistently good and while wayward at Bellewstown, will be better suited to today's more conventional course. San Anton seemed to underperform at Roscommon but showed better at Galway previously (where the third-placed horse won subsequently) and has claims on that form. Encosta should improve from her encouraging Leopardstown debut and receives 9lb form the selection while Catherine Of Siena ran well at Navan and should be suited to stepping up a furlong and 56 yards. Above The Line's unraced dam is a half-sister to an Italian juvenile Group 1 winner and could run well on debut. Quiz Test was behind to the selection at Bellewstown and runs in cheekpieces.

PEKING OPERA has a Group 1 Doncaster Futurity Stakes entry and is well bred. By Galileo, his winning dam is a sister to Air Force Blue who was a top class juvenile for his trainer in 2015. Stablemate Farnborough, also by Galileo, is out of a Listed winner whose sister landed an American Grade 2. He has no immediate big-race entries and also debuts in a tongue-tie. Rerkha, by Kodiac, is out of a Group 3 winner and from a good family and could be smart. Bold Discovery's placed dam is a half-sister to two American Graded winners and is also notable. Navalny, by No Nay Never, has a good pedigree and is out of a Group 3 winner while New Variant's dam is related to useful winners but is already gelded. Brighter London is out of a Group-placed dam who has produced three winners. Marco Monaco won a barrier trial on his second attempt, on August 30, while stablemate Upeop was well beaten in two trials.
