Tuesday Racing Tips from Steve Ryder

The Richard Hannon trained MR TYRRELL (best priced at 12/1) has a good record over this course and distance with form figures of 32214 and looks overpriced back at this track. His victory came in August last year off a mark of 79 and since then he has gradually dropped in the handicap from a mark in the 80s down to a mark of 71 last time. 

Following a disappointing effort on turf last time, the handicapper has dropped Mr Tyrrell 3lbs down to a career low mark of 68 and that ratings could underestimate him back over this course and distance. Tom Marquand will probably have to hold Mr Tyrrell up from a draw in Stall 11 so he will need some luck in running but he should hit the frame with up to four places on offer.

The Heather Main trained SECRET GLOW (best priced at 13/2) won over this course and distance on his reappearance this season and he has now dropped back down to the same mark in this race. The four-year-old then finished a close 2nd on his next start off a mark of 71 before disappointing on his next two starts on turf. 

Despite finishing 8th last time at Newcastle, Secret Glow was only beaten 3 ½ lengths at the finish so a 2lb drop from the handicapper seems generous and I expect him to run well back over this course and distance with up to four places available. 

The only victory of BERRY EDGE'S (best priced at 7/2) career so far came over this course and distance last season and he is now rated 1lb lower on his return to this track. Since that victory off a mark of 67 last season, he struggled off higher marks until bouncing back to form on his previous two starts following a 79 day break. 

Berry Edge finished a neck 2nd at Redcar before finishing a close 3rd at Ripon last time off a mark of 66. He runs here off the same mark in this race and connections now also fit the gelding with first time cheekpieces. Oli Stammers is a good booking in this apprentice handicap and he should run well from Stall 1.
