There is no doubt SUBSTANTIAL isn’t the most straightforward but when he does put it altogether he is a pretty talented horse. He showed that winning readily at Haydock in June. The second Gweedore has won a couple of times since and looks a decent yardstick so the form is pretty solid. He was never put in the race when down the field at Thirsk but if you can forgive that his overall profile is a progressive one. He runs off the same mark here and this 4yo should have a fair bit more to come yet especially over a mile. I know he is trading near the top of the market at 11/2 but I still think that’s value as I can see him going off shorter. I’d have him more of a 7/2 chance for this. The danger looks to be Alazwar who has won 2 of his last 3 but this has more strength in depth and he should face a challenge for the lead as well. Of the rest Percy’s Lad also has a squeak with confidence high after that Chester win.
