Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action, including an NAP at Southwell.
14:10 Perth
The Gillian Boanas trained TEESCOMPONENTS LAD (best priced at 5/1) finished a close 2nd in this race last year and he should hold strong claims again this year off only a 4lb higher mark. The nine-year-old has a consistent record for the previous 12 months with form figures in that time of 2221363243 and he should once again run well.
Teescomponents Lad finished 2nd at Doncaster in March off a mark of 133 before finishing a close 3rd on his previous start here over 2m4f when only beaten 1 ¾ lengths off a mark of 133. The handicapper has dropped him 1lb in that time so he runs here off a mark of 132 and he should run well with regular rider Tom Midgley once again claiming 5lbs and multiple bookmakers offering 3 places despite there only being seven runners.
14:45 Perth
The Nigel Twiston-Davies trained BALLYANDY (best priced at 5/1) last ran over fences in November 2018 but he returns chasing off a favourable mark. The eleven-year-old ended last season in good form with an 18 length victory at Fakenham and a 6 length victory at Chepstow off a mark of 145. He finished off last season finishing midfield in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival and he is now rated 149 over hurdles.
Ballyandy runs here back over fences off a mark of 139 which is 10lbs lower than his hurdles mark so he is well treated and connections must have given him plenty of schooling to risk the ‘yard legend’ back over the larger obstacles. He has a win and a second from his two starts at Perth and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
18:00 Southwell
The Michael Dods trained BOLD TERRITORIES (NAP) (best priced at 5/2) has won all three of his starts since being fitted with cheekpieces and he should hold strong claims of completing a four-timer. The four-year-old had reached a career low mark of 51 before finishing a close 2nd at Wolverhampton in July. He got off the mark later that month off the same mark before defying a 4lb rise to win at Newcastle by a short head.
Bold Territories showed a good attitude once again to win by a head at Redcar eight days ago off a mark of 57 and the handicapper has raised him 3lbs up to a mark of 60. He instead runs here off his previous mark of 57 making him 3lbs “well in” at the weights and he should prove hard to beat under Oli Stammers coming out of Stall 4.
