Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's action, with runners at Listowel and Southwell.
The Joseph O’Brien trained NATIVE QUEEN (best priced at 11/8) has run well on all three of her career starts to date and she should prove hard to beat in this maiden if she runs up to her rating of 78. The three-year-old finished 2nd at Galway on her only start as a two-year-old before finishing 2nd on her reappearance at Navan when only beaten ½ length.
Native Queen was unlucky last time when only 3rd at Fairyhouse as she was short of room and hampered 2f out before running on well inside the final furlong without being able to reach the leaders. Mikey Sheehy gets the chance to avenge that defeat and I expect her to get off the mark at the fourth attempt.
Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum has a strong hand in this maiden with both Printemps and DOUX ESPRIT (best priced at 6/4) holding strong claims and preference goes to the latter as he has proven form in the UK. The Roger Varian trained three-year-old has been running consistently well all season with form figures of 63233 including when placing in handicaps off a mark of 80 on his previous two starts.
Since his latest start, Doux Esprit has been gelded and that can hopefully mean he shows an improved attitude throughout his race. This will be his first start on Tapeta but that shouldn’t prove a problem for this son of Invincible Spirit and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
GOLDEN SHOT (best priced at 10/3) looks a stereotypical Sir Mark Prescott improver who steps up in trip from 7f to 1m6f now on his handicap debut. The three-year-old was sent off 50/1, 125/1, 250/1 and 250/1 on his four starts as a juvenile and now returns from 301 days off to make his handicap debut off an opening mark of 56.
Since that time, Golden Shot has also been gelded and he should rate a completely different proposition now in handicaps over this trip of 1m6f. His dam was a winner over 1m4f and his full-sister has won twice over 1m4f so this is the trip that he will want and I expect him to prove hard to beat on handicap debut.
