THE KNIPHAND made a pleasing start to his career when finishing runner-up on both his starts in bumpers and, although it seems likely he'll want further than this in time, he could be up to making a winning start over hurdles with Nigel Twiston-Davies' yard in such good form. Country Queen won well at Kilbeggan last time, but is another who might appreciate a stiffer test of stamina, while Our Marty is worth noting too.

Some very interesting types taking each other on here, but probably none more so than GOWEL ROAD, who was well backed for the Coral Cup at Cheltenham when last seen in March. He was well beaten in seventh that day, but it wouldn't be a shock if he were to make into a much better chaser. Haute Estime is another who was highly tried over hurdles and he can go well on his first start over the larger obstacles, while course winner Hermann Clermont should also be considered.

The ultra-consistent You Name Him is hard to rule out for Rebecca Menzies, but BRANDY MCQUEEN looks the one to side with here in pursuit of the hat-trick. He was last seen winning at Kelso in May and, if ready to go after a four-month break, a 6lb rise shouldn't prevent him from going close. Go Bob Go just held on here last time and, with this longer trip a positive, he could go well off just 2lb higher.

Winning pointer/hurdler Corrigeen Rock looks feasibly treated for his chasing bow providing he's tuned up after a six-month break, but a falling mark makes Gordon Elliott's raider THE GREEK of interest. The six-year-old showed a liking for this track when a staying-on second over 2m in July and, though two lesser efforts have followed, this step up in trip should unlock improvement. Big Difference finally obliged over C&D last time (16th chase attempt) and a 3lb rise is fair.

Jackhammer, fit from the Flat, boasts obvious appeal having landed successive C&D handicaps in the spring (only two visits here), while Gordon Elliott's Platinumcard enters the equation having advertised his well-being by finishing second in a big Galway handicap on the Flat recently. Preference, however, is for winning bumper performer HOLMES ST GEORGES, who looks well treated for his handicap debut having performed well for a long way over further when last seen here in June.

RAPID RAIDER kept on well to land the spoils at Kelso over 3m4f on his latest outing in May. Although the eight-year-old has to contend with a 2lb rise, he gets the nod to land the spoils dropping back in trip. If he fails to fire, the consistent Easy Bucks can pick up the pieces after finding only one rival too strong on his last two appearances. Ladronne can follow them home.

In this intriguing contest it may be best to opt for the debutant FUJI ROCKS, representing the in-form Fergal O'Brien yard. The five-year-old gelding's dam is a half-sister to the top-class chaser Monkerhostin and he can get off the mark at the first time of asking. Tommy's Fortune has shown glimpses of promise in bumpers and must be respected, while Bix Beiderbecke is another to consider.
