Shaladar has posted his best efforts when delivered late on the scene and is another that adds spice to this contest, especially now dropped back in trip after his latest effort at York.

Jim Goldie's charge finished a decent fourth in a competitive handicap at Ascot on his penultimate start and he merits the utmost respect on his return to the track that he won twice at in August. Pearl Of Qatar also has a good record here and can be feared, while the unexposed Maple Jack completes the shortlist.

JUMP THE GUN was denied a clear run numerous times in the Silver Cup here last Saturday and may gain some compensation, with this extra furlong likely to suit. Five-time course winner Gweedore is sure to give another solid account off a career-high mark having won here on his latest start. Although Love De Vega has been a beaten favourite on his last two starts, there was plenty to like about his Ascot run earlier in the month and he arrives here on the same rating.

A strong case can be made for plenty of these but none more so than BLOWING WIND, who took a big step forward when finishing second at Thirsk last time. That was his first start since a wind operation and, off the same mark today, the four-year-old could be hard to stop. Northbound also hit the crossbar last time and may prove to be the main threat to the selection. Others to note are Flying Pursuit, Monhammer and Cobra Kai.

ON THE RIVER arrives here following a good second at Thirsk a month ago and a repeat of that performance can see him go close again. The three-year-old drops back in trip this afternoon but has previously recorded some creditable efforts over 7f and could make his presence felt. Classy Al is a very consistent type and is feared ahead of the recent Catterick winner Josiebond, who should also not be dismissed.

AUSSIE WARRIOR is the most unexposed of these on his first start in a handicap and an opening mark of 79 doesn't look overly harsh so, with the likelihood of progression, James Tate's colt looks the one to side with. First Impression has run well in some competitive races of late and he looks set to go well once again, while Cosmos Raj is another for the shortlist.

Although SCOTTISH DANCER has yet to get off the mark in seven outings, he appears to have been found an ideal opportunity, following his recent second at Newcastle when improving for a step up in trip. Tomorrow's Angel stayed on well to finish third at Ripon last time and has been dropped 1lb in the meantime. Satanic Moon was a disappointing favourite at Thirsk in June, but has been freshened up since and looks the type to relish this extra yardage.
