16:04 Catterick

I’m sticking with the reliable and in-form OH SO CHIC at Catterick on Wednesday. This mare clocked a career best to win at Carlisle last month, showing a good attitude to assert in the closing stages. She backed that up bumping into another progressive rival in City Vaults when second at Redcar last time and back up in trip here if she arrives in similar form she should take a bit of beating. This race lacks strength in depth so perhaps Lady Shanawell will emerge as the main danger to the selection. She remains a maiden but was clear with the winner when second at Ripon last month. She hung under pressure that day though and that is far from ideal. Freewheelin got his head back in front at Southwell back in January and while he wasn’t in the same form at Newcastle he has been put away since and could be best of the rest on reappearance.

This step up in trip should be the making of GLENDRUID at Bangor on Wednesday. He is bred to be pretty useful and looked good winning over hurdles here last year, making all the running. He was too keen on chase debut at Newton Abbot but showed potential. The cheekpieces should help straighten out his jumping and I think he is a chaser to keep on side for the Sam Twiston-Davies team. Peter’s Portrait was below form last campaign but could still return to form with the blinkers back on. I think he has enough to prove on the balance though. Steel Wave isn’t getting any younger but was only beaten three lengths at Stratford at the start of the month and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if he finished second. Seemingly So is another one to note with the visor back on but if the selection improves he will likely be struggling to peg him back here.
